Shot on digital?

Anyone know what format this was shot on? It looks like it could be digital.

You can check out the website of the Se-Ma-For Studios http://www.se-ma-for.com/ that shot it. They have some photoes and an English version of the website is somewhat usabe.

Here's what I found there (in Polish): What I found is that it was shot on 13Mpix Canon cameras hooked to computers at 25 stills per second. Nikon lenses were used. It was shot on up to 7(!) sets simultaniously. From the stills an animation was produced on set then, if approved by the director herself, it was sent to postproduction. Since it's a puppet animation this was used to remove the stings and other holds used on set, refine the details of the scene and to add particle effects.

The whole thing took 5 years to make, and 200 people in Poland, the UK and Norway were involved in the production.

Congratulations to the team for winning the Academy Award. It's the studio's first Oscar since Tango (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0084764/) 25 years ago.

I think it was digital and CGI. Whatever it was it looks fantastic.

CGI??? You must be having a laugh!

The balloons are actually CGI, or at least most of them. Including the string down to, but not including the knot on the crows string.

I’ll take film over digital any day of the week. NOTHING beats film broadcast in high definition, but digital high-definition video is horrible. I think I saw a 35-millimeter camera on the set in the making-of documentary that accompanied the film when it was broadcast on Great Performances. Also, I don’t think that single-frame shutters have been developed for HD cameras. Peace.

The everyday happens every day.

it's digital, and yes... there are single frame shutters, but we like to call them SLR's, that's how Corpse Bride was filmed anyways.

I was referring specifically to digital motion-picture capture cameras. I don’t think there are single-frame shutters in the Arri D-21 or the Panavision Genesis, for example. Peace.

This film was shot on still cameras; your commentary is not apropos.

What are we in 1996? Who'd want a single shutter capable bulky Genesis, instead of a Digital or 35mm SLR, this rhetoric is valid since no one really thinks in those terms anymore. Coraline was filmed the same way with SLRs. Peace.
