The rating of this movie is wrong!

Here is a mistake, please fix it.

The rating of this movie say 7.7/10 (620 votes)

But if you press rating at the left site it says:

Arithmetic mean = --> 8.7. <-- Median = 10

So the rating of the movie should be 8.7 and NOT 7.7

The mistake is within this vote group:
Males aged 45+ 69 --> 4.1 <--

But if you highlight it is says:

Arithmetic mean = --> 8.6 <-- Median = 10

The rating here should have been 8.6 and NOT 4.1

51 73.9% 10
4 5.8% 9
1 1.4% 8
2 2.9% 7
6
2 2.9% 5
1 1.4% 4
1 1.4% 3
2 2.9% 2
5 7.2% 1

It's a conspiracy!

Actually it wouldn't shock me since Google Video and YouTube are notorious for resetting the post counts for Alex's films.

Rate it 'D' for Drivel/

IMDB uses something they call "weighted averages" to give less weight to some votes. It is idiotic and misleading and I don't think anybody understands it. It affects ratings for some films in a positive way and others negatively. It is IMDB's way of telling you you're not qualified to rate films, but it tends to appear more balanced once a film gets more votes.

I got a humorous response, that was bordering on insulting.

You'll get that when you make stupid claims.

Diablo5150-You said I'm illogical which proves that YOU are and IDIOT!!!

So you actually believe this BS story of 9/11 when there are so many facts to prove otherwise? Are you yet another willfully ignorant American who is too afraid to dig deeper into the story?

reply

Actually the reason for this is to counteract the idiots who go around rating every movie a 1 or a 10 whether or not they have seen it. People who rate many movies with a pattern of reasonability have weighted votes.

reply

Actually it makes perfect sense because some people clearly are unqualified to rate films, such as the many people who give 1s to well liked movies or 10s to movies in the bottom 100. They are clearly trying to influence the average instead of giving their honest opinion. So the weighted average counters this and makes it so that honest votes are worth something.

"It is idiotic and misleading and I don't think anybody understands it."

Weighted averages are actually pretty damn simple... take a stats class, read a stats book, or something...
