Remove werewolves = Jumps Up A Few Ratings Points

Just my opinion. But the film was doing fine without the werewolves "twist." Marlin Manson music starts playing and everyone in the room starts laughing. The film is far from perfect. But had that scene been changed. The movie would get a solid rating from me. Otherwise this is just an average film that had the potential to be an epic classic.

A lot of people I know dislike the werewolf scene.

I agree it's very out of place, but that was kind of the point.

Personally, I also would have cut down the kids section of the film...that really seemed to drag and made the film seem a little too PG13.

He wasn't really a vampire though. If they were going for a monster stories theme then it could have been done better. I agree with others that the werewolves were done the weakest. I liked the other scenes because they were done well. If others disagree that's fine. To each is own.

reply

But your ok with pumpkin demons and zombie ghosts

reply

The werewolf story is the weakest part of the entire film, and is the worst story of the bunch. Its still decent, but I agree that it should have been axed. The other stories are pretty great, though.

I might be odd then because I liked that scene. I was surprised to find out they were werewolves the whole time. Its even better when you watch it again, and notice some of there conversations in the costume store "I ate some bad mexican"

reply

I'm with you, I liked the werewolves scene. In fact, it was my favourite storyline in the whole movie.

reply

I also enjoyed the werewolf storyline mainly cause I'm a fan of werewolves, so I was thrilled to see them in a horror movie that I was already enjoying the hell out of. The transformation scene with Marilyn Manson's "Sweet Dreams" playing in the background was my favorite part of the entire movie!

A boat that floats on water can also sink in it.

reply

I agree. Weakest plot element.

Anyways, Werewolves are not "Monsters". They are humans with curses. They do not enjoy killing their victims.

reply

Erm...

This is a fictional film and they can do whatever they want with their werewolves. They might not actually be werewolves, they could be lupine aliens from Mars - the film didn't specify so don't assume.

Sayonara, not to be confused with cyanide, which is, of course, goodbye in any language.

reply

Yeah and they could have written that the werewolves didn't lure victims into a feast but sang songs and roasted marshmellows around a campfire.

And they can make a movie about Vampires that don't drink blood but rather drink Kool-aid.

Of course this would make for some really silly and pointless films.

reply

Some werewolves are just eeeeeviiiil. Don't you people watch Teen Wolf?

What if a squirrel wants a sausage?

reply

What?

Some of the earliest werewolf legends spoke of men and women who used either witchcraft, pacts with the devil, or rituals to willing turn into wolves so they could run around killing people. It's not a curse if they choose to become a beast. And as the person below me said, they can have werewolves be however they want them to be.

You meant to write "I disagree", no?

Or maybe you're just another idiot on IMDb who can't reply to the poster and instead clicks reply randomly.

reply

If I want to see werewolves done right I'll just watch Ginger Snaps.

I'm surprised this thread is still alive, but I just watched the movie again because I bought the blu ray...

Anyhow, yes, you can write Werewolves any way you like. In my opinion, the best werewolf movies/tv shows feature werewolves more as victims than attackers. My first reference is American Werewolf in London which is just a plan awesome werewolf movie. (Compare that to the sequel and you see what I mean about how badly werewolves can be written). My second werewolf template is "OZ" from Buffy the Vampire slayer.

If you make werewolves into scheming, remorseless killers, then you start to blur the line between Werewolves and Vampires. That's not a good thing because (even with the bump in werewolves) there are still at least 3 times as many vampire movies than Werewolves I'd estimate. So let's see something fresh.

reply

I'm not a big werewolf fan myself, but I didn't mind how they incorporated them into this movie. Regardless, the rest of the stories and the "feel" of the movie makes me love it enough to not care to much about the werewolves!

reply

The werewolf story was true to the original short.

She is being stalked by something evil, but she turns the tables.

Right, but they really could have screwed up how they incorporated werewolves into the film. I thought they did a decent job.

reply

the werewolf scene is quite possibly my favorite cinematic moment ever. can't believe there's so many people who didn't love that part. i think it made the movie that much more fun, and I loved the way they intertwined the principal becoming one of their victims. maybe I'm really oblivious and just wasn't paying attention, but it actually took me 3 different times of watching the movie to realize thats who it was. everytime I watch this movie I pick up on something I didn't before.

&I also liked Marilyn Manson in the background..the scene was supposed to be semi-sexual and that song totally played it up.

reply

I love the werewolf part and the stuff leading up to it and am also surprised by the hate. I thought it was clever, fun and illustrated the idea of the story structure the whole film, probably the best.

My least favorite portion was the final showdown with Sam and Brian Cox. It was fine and all, and the payoff with the kids is pretty great, but otherwise it's just a little boring.

Nitpicking of course. It's such a fun movie overall.

reply

My second favorite scene in the whole film! If I had to cut one out it definitely wouldn't be that one.

reply

Actually I thought the Brian Cox story was the weakest link. Just another run of the mill stalk and slash scenario in a creepy old house motif. Nothing new, nothing special.
The werewolf transformation was at least creative.

I also thought the school bus story was the best of the lot.

reply

You're just racist towards werewolves.

It is indeed sad that there are no good werewolf movies....

Sure there are. For a good werewolf movie watch Ginger Snaps and for a good vampire movie watch Near Dark.

reply

I did, and it was pretty good. Id rate ginger snaps 8/10
Near dark is a bit worse, a 7/10 for me.

Ginger Snaps? Can't say I see that, I rented them based on all the hype, don't get it. Only good Werewolf movie I've ever watched was the original "Howling", "The Wolfman" remake was pretty good too, but some people say there is a difference between a Wolfman and a Werewolf, I don't know.

The best Werewolves I've watched were in the short lived TV show "Werewolf", not saying every episode was great, in fact it really wasn't something that should have been a TV show, maybe a few movies, but still those were some great looking Werewolves and many of the episodes were genuinely scary and well written.
