Should Rose have gone to the baby shower anyway?

Should Rose have gone to the baby shower if she didn't have work commitments?

reply

Haha...obviously not since deep down she probably knew her sister wouldn't be able to handle it herself and her sister told her so. If I were her I would have been way too embarrassed to show my face in front of all my rich, successful high school classmates -- and what if Heather had shown up?

I think the monkeys at the zoo should have to wear sunglasses so they can't hypnotize you.

Of course she should have gone to clean up the house as that was her priority.

But she shouldn't have gone to the baby shower, and I think she wished that she hadn't. She certainly wished she hadn't come when they started handing round chocolate served in babies' nappies.

If she was that bothered about her old school friends being better off than she was she should have not gone.

I've heard from people who've been to school reunions and wished they hadn't bothered because their friends had changed too much.

I think that her attendance at the shower was a great addition to the movie. Rose went because she finally had an occupation that she was proud of. She was a business owner doing something she loved and was good at.

When she got to the party, I think she realized that she was being foolish for caring what they thought in the first place, and left to go to the job, which was something that really mattered.

I was really confused about Rose's baby shower attendance. I thought the woman who confronted her at the mini mart about dating her husband was the same one who had originally invited Rose to the baby shower. They looked alike and both were pregnant, right?

When casting Heather (Mac's wife), why wouldn't the director use an actress who was more physically different (brunette, perhaps) from the one playing Rose's high school acquaintance?

Just a thought.

I wondered the same thing. When the mini mart scene happened, I thought that was who had invited her to the shower. Maybe using two "cookie cutter" look alike suburban wives was intentional.

Personally,I think that Rose should have gone to the house and helped her sister in the clean-up. One person cannot do it alone. But of course, the viewer has to understand that Rose wanted to have some sense of validation on the success that her new career. She does not want to be known as somebody who did not achieve anything in life. In short, you can't blame her at all.

#1 No way would a cop have a house like they initially showed Rose cleaning. #2 The Stepford wife from the 1st house ASKED about Steve Zahn's character and Rose replied she thought he was married to Heather, Heather wouldn't have asked that about her own husband.

I don't see why she couldn't tell the insurance guy she was on another job and would have to go later in the day OR the next day to do the cleanup. Its not like the mess was going anwyhere.

Yes she shouldn've gone had she not have work commitments.

The baby shower scene was a pivotal moment in her life as it was showing the end-game of what her current pursuit was and how it was not for her; or how she wanted to be.

Had she not seen what she saw with the other women, she would not have had her epiphany.

I'm glad Heather wasn't there - that would have been too cliche', especially right after the mini-mart scene.

But this was a standard plot device - major decision: take a job that could guarantee success of your business, or get to see the "high school crowd", hoping to a) relive your glory days (since you haven't had any glory since) and b) try to show off what weak success you do have. So yes, she had to go to the shower, if for no other reason than to give a reason for everything after that to fall apart.

The shower invitation was for 4pm on a Saturday afternoon.

I don't think the insurance company needed the house cleaned by Saturday night, or even on a Sunday. As long as it was clean by the next business day, Monday, the insurance company would be satisfied.

Baby showers only take an hour or two. I don't think it was irresponsible for her to go to the shower at 4, and still get to the clean-up by 6 or 7, they could be finished by later that evening or Sunday morning at the latest.

There was no reason for her to forgo the baby shower.
