One Eye's sacrifice (spoilers)

When One Eye passively allowed the Indians to murder him, was it done for the sake of the boy (on the premise that if he put up a fight, the Indians would kill the boy as well as revenge, while if he gave himself up, they may spare him), or was it simply a realization that the situation was hopeless for everybody, and that he had been fighting against the odds for so long that there was no longer any point?

I tend to believe it is a little of both.

He had already seen his "death" out of context (without knowing that the boy's life could/would be in danger).

His visions are probably what kept him alive and prevented him from dying for so long, and maybe he had wanted to die for a very long time, so as soon as he saw it, he knew that there was no helping it, and he definitely welcomed it, started right away to build that thing made of stones (I know it has a specific name) and made peace with himself.

Fine, fine, I'll leave! But first I'm going to bother these peanuts! Hmm? Yes? Hmm? HMM?

You see One Eye briefly grab the boy's wrist or arm before he walks back as if it to say, "This is where you stop following." I think this is the only time in the entire film where One Eye displayed some form of direct communication to the boy.

Then the expressions from the aboriginals seem to be looks of inquiry into some sort of decision that One Eye had the option of invoking and as you mentioned, One Eye clearly goes passively with what seems like glances of understanding.

Also, this portion of the film was titled "Sacrifice". I didn't see any other scene in that part of the movie that pertains to the meaning of that word.

My point for all this is I think he would of gone out fighting if not for the boy being there.

I think VileVanGogh summed it up pretty nicely.

Good point.

That wasn't in dispute, only the question of whether it was done for the sake of the boy, as opposed to just giving up what had become a futile struggle.

In the title maybe you shouldn't put 'One Eye's Sacrifice' then put '(Spoilers)' as it actually defeats the purpose of having a spoiler warning. So thanks for ruining the movie buddy.

PS: In future use a thread title such as 'Question about the ending'

"Sacrifice" doesn't necessarily mean that he gave up his life at the end, just a selfless act, so there is no spoiler. Get a dictionary and learn what words mean.

Since you seem to think you can give orders to people, I have a better suggestion. In the future, don't read and comment on messageboards for movies that you haven't even seen.
