That's right, you heard it. If members of such special unit are really selected carefully as it is shown in the film, are well paid and respected - you need such unit to fight the bastards who abuse the law. I did not feel sorry for any of the dealers and would feel safer if I knew someone was actually trying to do anything about these punks who poison our society. Think what you want about me, but honestly how would you recommend to cope with drugs and other problems in our contemporary world? The only thing these criminals understand is fear and units like BOPE would exploit this to at least move in the right direction in this endless war.

Know where it can be used, like right now? Mexico. Polititians and police chiefs are being murdered left and right by the drug dealers, they are being taken over (actually they are already have, and are just maintaining control). A BOPE force would do wonders right now.

no mate, what they need is for america to stop pushing its neo-liberalism on them, as it does with other latin american countries with the same effects. oh, and it would help if the NRA wasnt so keen on making sure that nothing was done about the fact that so many of their guns end up in these countries (drugs go from south to north, guns go from north to south). oh yeah, and it would be good if the USA, particularly using the CIA, dont see to it that any good leaders who happen to spring up are gotten rid of as fast as possible. etc, etc, etc...

BOPE is an imperfect solution to a problem that has no solution. To see a paramilitary unit sanctioned by the state operating the way they do in those conditions really says alot about poverty and ignorance in those places. It's a neverending war, fighting fire with fire does not put it out.

BOPE is a desperate countermeasure that exist solely because of the failure of the regular law enforcement agencys.
