Music question

Just throwing out a quick question here.

Does anyone know the name of the song playing at the very start of the movie, at the rave / party / whatever in the favela ? I find myself liking the rhythm, but I have no clue what the song is called and I can't read the credits worth a damn to try and figure out if it's listed anywhere there. xD

I'm much obliged for the answer. :)

Sorry about my english,

"Rap das Armas"- translation - Gun´s Rap

Everyone in the world loves the beat

"parapapaparapapa" - This is the sound that a machine gun make in favela´s slang.

Soccer Fan´s around the world are singing the Rap.

But, despite the swing and beat, the song is about killing cops, and the famous

slum, "Morro do Dende".

The lyric is very agressive and forbidden. Only pirate´s radios play this kind

of music.

Anyway, I like the Rap too, even it being a evil Rap.

Ps: A Brazilian who speaks a better english and lives abroad can translate for you.

Hugs,

Andre

Interestingly, the song was a major hit in Sweden last year and was played regularly on both national and commercial radio for several months. My guess is this was partly due to the fact that most people have no idea what the lyrics is about...

Have no fear, an English-speaking Brazilian is here.

Here goes the original, Portuguese lyrics, so you kids can sing along ;)

And here goes a rough translation, so you can finally see what you've been singing ;)

Morro do Dendê (Dende Hill) is tough to be invaded
We're gonna have some fun with the Germans (a slang for the police or enemies)
Cause I'll tell you how it is done in Dende
Here we won't cut slacks even for the DRE (Delegacia de Repressão a Entorpecentes - Narcotic Repression Precint)
Even the BOPE shakes to come up here in the hill
We don't make it easy to Civil Army nor to the Military Police
I have the biggest respect for my friends
But Dende Hill is also God's land

There comes one with an AR15 (rifle) and another with a 12 (gauge shotgun) in his hand
Along comes another with a handgun and other with a .28 (revolver)
One goes ahead escorting the paddywagon with an Uru (submachine gun)
In the back there are two more, but holding Glocks
Friends that I don't forget or leave aside
There come two more brothers with 762s (rifles)
Shooting up just to test out the guns
With ina-ingratek, pisto-uzi (submachine guns) or with winchesters (rifles)
They're evil criminals and no one messes with them
They have AK47s and machine guns
This rap is cool and I tell ya something
Who're those dudes with M16s? (semi-auto rifles)
The neighborhood around here says they can't take it any longer
The entrances to the slums are guarded with .50 (very heavy tripod rifles)
If you take a bullet, can you hold up?
Be it a .50 or a .30 (another tripod rifle)
But if it is a "German" (police officer), I won't let it for tomorrow
I'll bring down the sucker with a Pazan shot (a machine gun)
Because those Germans all are douches
They come with old flintlocks, shoot twice and vanish
If I don't use a pistol, I'll hit with my fists
And end the rap blowing up some grenades

Please, see this video which illustrates the guns that appear in the lyrics:

The song in the beginning is called "Tropa de Elite" and is played by the band "Tihuana", which is a very good band.
Brazil isn't all about guns, favelas, poverty, etc as people think. We've got tons of good rock n roll too.
