Is this the same BOPE from Bus 174?

Because they royally *beep* that scene up. I can't imagine those guys are the same guys in this movie. Those guys didn't even have a radio.

reply

Well, the director of Bus 174 is Padilha. However, Bus 174 partly describes the incompetence of the police, but in Tropa de Elite they are anything but incompetent.

reply

No, Bus 174 does NOT show the "incompetence" of the police. It does show the incompetence of the State, the Governor and the higher ups who were more interested in public opinion and political correctness than letting the police do their jobs and take care of business. The police could have taken that scumbag POS out at any time, they had a clear shot, kept asking permission, but weren't allowed to do their job by the higher ups because the cameras were rolling.

reply

Scumbag POS? That's harsh. I don't think you were paying attention to the documentary.

reply

You don't have to get your opinions and observations from a documentary if you've lived the reality. If someone sticks a knife or a gun to your neck or a loved ones neck, then make sure and explain what a wonderful misunderstood upstanding citizen that person was. These criminals are barbarians, who only show a glimmer of faked humanity when they're caught. I sincerely hope with all my soul that neither you or anyone else ever has to learn what these POS scumbags are capable of. They should all be killed and buried standing up, so they don't take up too much space.

reply

Right....

So some random thugs come into your house, stab your mother to death while you're watching, leaving you homeless at 6 years old to fend for yourself, and then at 12 you watch the police of all people massacre your childhood friends in front of a church, and you would turn out right as rain, correct?

You don't know of what you speak of. Your words are based on fear and hatred. If you believe that everyone else in the world had the same opportunities as you did growing up, which you obviously take for granted, instead choosing to cast damnation on those that are not as fortunate as you, then I pity you and your ignorant view of the world.

Back to the topic, BOPE was totally incompetent in Bus 174. To just walk up to an assailant in a hostage situation while he wasn't looking and try to fire at the assailant while his hostage was IN HIS HANDS was completely incompetent.

Yours are the observations and feelings of a very well fed gringo who knows nothing of the reality outside your little coddled word, aside from what you see on the screen that is. This you've made painfully obvious. You empathize with the animals instead of the victims, like I said before, I hope reality never hits home for you, keep those rose colored glasses on.

Your arrogant assumptions as to my history and early life are WAY off,BTW. 99% of poor folk and those that grew up poor do not turn into barbarians and animals like a very small minority do. Please do no presume to put everyone who had it rough growing up into the same class as these POS criminals, assassins and thieves.

Most of the people who live in favelas (shanty towns) are honest hard working people who do what they can to live a decent life. They all have it rough, and many have had traumatic experiences, yet they somehow hold it together and aren't out there killing, raping and worse.

reply

Right, except I'm not a gringo I was born in Brasil. I moved to the US when I was 9, but my mother's side of the family still lives in Brasil. I'm well aware of the corruption, crime, poverty level, and poor distribution of wealth that goes on in Rio. You'll know this to be true because I'm not spouting off about "he had social services! he should have used social services!" and other such things like an idiot, because I know social services is non-existant in Brasil.

Nobody is talking about poor. I said having your mother murdered, being on the streets since 6, and then watching your friends slaughtered by the cops. The guy didn't even have the privilege of living in a favela, he lived on the streets, period. He lived in a favela with his mom, until she was murdered and he had no place to live. A house in the favela would have been a step UP for him.

Like I said, I really don't think you watched the documentary, and if you did your mind is so clouded by hatred that you didn't want to listen to the story - all you wanted to do is look at the outcome.

I don't emphasize with the animals. I emphasize with the victims, which they ALL were that day - even the victims said it in the post interview. I understand your mindset because you're just like the people that think that killing street kids are the way to solve Brasil's problems. Well I got news for you, it isn't.

Like I said, take any 6 year old child, murder his family, leave him wandering the streets for a few years, then have the cops murder his friends in COLD BLOOD, put him in and see how well that person turns out. I don't know how you can be so naive as to think that someone in that situation would have any possibility of turning out to be a normal, productive member of society. And even if a person does, they would be an exception to the rule, and an extremely rare case.

I'm not saying what he did was right. I'm just saying I understand why he came to be that way, and as one human being to another, I hope that he finds the peace he deserves in the afterlife. I keep Santo in my prayers.

You've made a really interesting question, that for even most of Brazilians is hard to answer... This is the same police, but in two different perspectives. One show the image that the most of the intellectuals (add the pseudo there....) in Brasil, where the bad guy actually doesn't know what he is doing, he is just an innocent guy, a mere product of the state violence, who cant be punished... The other one (a action movie, and nothing else...) shows a different perspective, where the drug dealer, the murderer is the bad guy, and the cops the good guy (that could be very clear for you, but here in Brazil that image is really distorted.), even with all the excesses committed by BOPE in the film....

Tropa de Elite 1 + 2 = movies. Silly fascist fantasies in a crisp uniform.
Onibus 174 = documentary. The incompetent, moronic reality in a dirty rag.

There's the difference and the explanation.

How the hell can you say that the Tropa de Elite series is fascist when it's made by the same person who make Bus 174? Also, Elite Squad 2 completely invalidates your ridiculous statement.
