Awful title. Every time I bring up this movie people assume it is a dumb action flick that might as well be commando with foreign words without listening to me explain. But anyways I really enjoyed it and felt like it had a certain City of God vibe but with lots of authentic comments on the system of bureaucracy and law enforcement that comes out of a place so corrupted. Kind of like the politics from the Wire.
shareIt's a great movie indeed. About the title: in portuguese, it is very good and does not sound like some poorly made movie. It is the same for USA movies that come to Brazil and have their titles translated: we always think it would be better if the original title, in English, was mantained.
Also, the dubbing in English is awful. I don't know if you watched it with subtitles or dubbed, but, if you watched it dubbed, make me a favor: watch it again with subtitles. I watched a dubbed scene in youtube, it's a complete disgrace.
Oh I bet it sounds fine, and I wish it was brought over a little bit better. "Elite Squad" might as well be Super Soldier, or Elite Commando or something Commando sounding. No I definitely went with the subtitled version that came with Netflix as I can't stand dubs. I enjoy hearing the language and makes the most sense to me. I should probably get my hands on the second one huh? I've heard to not expect as much action and more of a political and institutional situation is this true? Almost sounds like the Wire

Yes, there is less action and more about politics and institutions in Brazil, it is a very good movie. It has a special meaning for us, brazillians, of course, since it reveals the situation of many things here, it makes us think about many things, but it is a great movie nevertheless, you should watch it, you won't regret.
