My two cents on Deadlands, the Internet critics, and everything else!
I finally got around to seeing "Deadlands: The Rising". I've been meaning to see it for months but between lack of time, money, and not a great deal of available titles in my area, I just never got around to it. I actually worked on a draft of the original "Beyond Dead" script with Gary so I was real interested in seeing his first effort.
I have to say for a first feature, it's not nearly as bad as all its critics dismiss it as. The editing could have been tighter and there was definetly a few other areas that could have used improvement. Overall though, a pretty good little flick.
Now on to the people who seem to having nothing but bad things to say about the movie. I can tell by the majority of the criticisms that most of them have never actually attempted to do what Gary has done because I can tell you from personal experience, that it is a very difficult proccess. I've been working on short films all summer and am about to graduate to features pretty soon so I know first hand, what it's like to try and gather whatever volunteers you can find on whatever budget you can raise and try to build a comprehendible film around it. I think the fact that Gary was able to make a 63-minute movie and get it picked up by a distributor is one hell of an accomplishment and he should be proud. I'd just like to congratulate you, Gary, on doing all this and still keeping your sanity. I hope you have even more fun and success with the sequel.
