One of the best movies I never saw in theatres

I came in late to the movie, starting at the point where they had been quarantined and food was being rationed. I'm going to re-watch it at some point. I loved the zombie like behaviour of the starving blind people, I loved the garbage filled cities, I loved how people reverted to their most primal instincts, I really just loved everything about this movie. I also loved how the disease vanished as mysteriously as it came on. The writers could have tried to "1 up" the beginning with the ending, but thankfully the start and end were kept on level playing fields of mysteriousness. The movie isn't about the disease, it's about how the characters cope with the disease. What a gem.

AMEN TO THAT MY FRIEND!

Happy to see other people able to appreciate and discern true beauty and perfection when they see it!

I couldn't agree more with your statement that perfectly summed up the essence of the movie.
And seeing all those people badmouthing and ranting about this gem just because there's no explosion is just annoying and disappointing.

This movie is a work of art and should be treated as such.

Great post!

I agree. I thought it was a great movie. It wasn't trying to be exciting- that's not what this world is about. It's about survival with limited supplies and everyone blind. I thought the movie did a perfect job portraying that.

I have to admit I thought Doctor's Wife (Moore) could have killed the King a lot sooner, but I did LMFAO when the lady set fire to Ward 3. Poetic justice at its finest. I loved seeing the world after everyone had gone blind.

For the record, I'm not usually one who goes for slow, artsy independent films, and I really liked this one. I think I'm just a sucker for dystopian futures. I got this in an 8 movie DVD collection for $4-5. It just amazes me how many people said this was "the worst film they'd ever seen." Seriously?

As somone else said, it's about how people react and cope with the blindness, not the blindness itself.

I am impulsive and thought the same thing. Then I tried thinking like her character. She couldn't be sure that there wasn't also someone who could see in ward 3. She didn't know where the food was it would be too difficult to kill him and get the food, herself and the others safely out of ward 3.
When the husband was criticizing he ward 3 people when he dropped off the jewelry I kept thinking shut up, this isn't going to do you any good. When the King of Ward 3 took over the food he really hadn't thought about it or planned how he would sell or trade it. He was looking for power and was one of those people you can easily manipulate by complimenting him and quickly get him to do whatever you want.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.

I'm there with you, I think it would go down just like this.

I just sent this movie's trailer to a friend. She's the type who always asks "But why?" so as a preemptive strike I told her not to worry about the cause, just what its results are. (Sort of like the zombies in The Walking Dead.) Your phrasing is better than mine!

(You may want to edit your title to say "Spoiler," as you pretty much give away how things turn out.)
