Things I learned Playing 'Lost Odyssey' (Spoilers)

Feel free to add your own.

1. Kaim has absolutly no problem taking on legions of Khents, and a giant tank on his own in the first stage, but can get totally pwned by kelolons on the second.

2. There's absolutely no need to take off your armor before going to bed.

3. The Numaran definition a spy is a person who investigates a top secret installation in their own country, and then later records and comments on things easily viewable to the public eye.

4. It turns out that Gongora, the ominous and evil looking guy who is revealed to have kiled the previous King, the Priminister, and Kaim's daughter all before the end of disc 1, was the bad guy all along. It's always ther person you least suspect.

5. For the love of Christ don't let the kids wander around.

6. You can only flash back to times when you were wearing the exact same cloths you're wearing at the moment.

7. Nobody gets laid after Numaran funerals.

8. Nobody seems to be willing to tell Queen Ming that her "whale tail" is totally showing.

9. The People of Urah pretty much accept changes there government goes through with little or no dissent. "What's that? You're dismantling our democratic government in order to reestablish an autocratic Monarchy? Well that's just peachy."

10. Numara is utterly defenseless against attacks from giant dinosaur monsters, but their tanks can totally pwn the five people who just defeated them.

This post helps identify what is wrong with this game, i.e. the story is GUFF.

The game is lazily written, lazily presented, lazily designed and over-wrought melodrama. For example

- Some characters only become playable shortly before the last disc. Not much time or opportunity to level them up.

- There's very few weapons to buy. Most characters have the same weapons.

- Every enemy has about two or three atacks and very lazy attack animations.

- You drive your boat to a shor and you can disembark anywhere in the world. Makes arsing about in the sea a bit redundant.

- Battle is quite repetitive.

- As for the story, it's full of made up nonsense and has a distinct 'making it up as we go along feel'.

- It's beyond melodrama. I swear at the end of disc 1, start of disc 2 there's a solid 15 mins of kids sobbing hysterically. Mum dies, sobbing, funeral, sobbing, family re-united, sobbing.

- Gongora is a typical sniggering smug grinning horse laughing funny bearded manga baddie. YAWN.

- Let's use magic to do this, oh no the magic has been reversed by some random magical event thingy, lets use our magic power to create more magic and nullify the reverse magic before Gongora can use his magic storage tanks to reverse the magic mirror effect of the our world - immortal world magic flux chaos effect. Bye Seth.

It's just a waste of 40 hours of my life. I can't believe Nobuo wossname helped make this dirge. It completely lacks any of the depth of characters, script, plot, bestiary, weapons, levelling process, battle system and inventory of Final Fantasy XII. You just CAN'T play this game and enjoy Lost Odyssey.

Well, I'm going to make a wager that you've never played any of the pre-FFXII JRPGs, because this game is pretty standard fare. It's a beautiful old style RPG, made just like all the FF games he made.

- Characters near the end you say? Ever heard of Ever heard of Yuffie or Vincent?

- Enemies with few attack animations? Play FFI-FFX. Pretty much the same.

- Battle repetitive? Well, it's the style of RPG. A turn-based game isn't going to have a whole lot of standard deviation. It was made for fans of the classic JRPGs, and it's done pretty well.

-Melodrama? This game contains a beautifully diverse group of characters. While the main story may be somewhat lacking, the characters themselves are well thought out, and are easy to connect with. And are you actually bothered that children would cry at their mother's funeral? You seem to be lacking the emotional capacity that the game requires.

This game was a fantastic representative of the traditional JRPG, and well worth 40 hours. And "Nobuo Uematsu" worked on the brilliant sountrack of this game because he and the founder of Mistwalker Studios worked together for years on the Final Fantasy projects. They're good friends.

Now beyond that, to what I've learned:

- In some families it's perfectly acceptable to refer to your grandfather by his first name.

- Queens can apparently actually be attractive.

- Humans need to rest every 14 seconds.

- If you wear rings, you can win any fight.
