Why is there a timeskip?

Why would they timeskip fourteen years from the previous movie if they're going to miss the rest of the series? Then the kids wouldn't be able to pilot evas anymore. And what's wrong with Asuka's eye?

I usually scoff at the common complaints about this series "not making sense" but this movie is just bizarre.

Not only is it a weak point in the series is really does make no sense whatsoever.

*SPOILERS*

1- Why even have the time skip in the first place? Seems a clumsy attempt to throw some new characters in

2- If Kaworu bothered stopping the 3rd impact why exactly did he then want a 4th impact??? He claimed he would make Shinji happy but really did nothing beyond teaching him to play piano (I was super dissapointed I expected so much more character developement)

3- What is up with Mari? One second she is introduced as a cool possible double agent, this film she walks around meek as a cat just following orders.

4- I question the need for this entire film... really could have just been a continuation of the last act of previous film, nothing new (beyond time skip) happens whatsoever

Did you not catch the explanation? Asuka mentioned the 'curse' of the Evas...
Piloting an Eva kept the pilots young-looking. They are still aged as the other characters, but still look like their 15 year younger selves. It seemed like an Angel had been contained in Asuka's eye. I didn't see it as clumsy at all... and despite how they continue to say this is NOT a continuation of the TV show... the more I still think it is... especially with many of the odd things Kowaru says... And hey, Kowaru had more air time this go round than the 1 or 2 episodes he had in the show! The last time I tried watching it, I was really tired and actually fell asleep during the movie! They develop Shinji's relationship with 3rd? Rei and Kowaru more than we've ever seen, and still complaining? Geesh, there' just no pleasing some people. Still love how they all meet up and the very end of the movie... akin to the old show. We're all stuck in Shinji's shoes as the audience still having to fill in the time gaps, but that is what made the original series so intriguing... waiting on that next VHS tape with a whole TWO episodes.... all we did back then was speculate...speculate...and wonder what the heck was going on and what was going to happen next! We have that same old 'new' feeling all over again... and what do we have now? People complaining...

I think 'most' of the gaps will be filled in for us and a nice climax completely different from the End of Evangelion. IF they even finish it... they better. But it may be 2 years on news on the 4th and 6 years before we see anything State side... hopefully we'll all still be alive by the 4th movie...
