Ignore the haters, this was good.

Whenever you change things people get angry and that's why there's a lot of hate. But if your really into Evangelion you will get the changes and welcome the different approach, if you want the old series go watch it's great too and if you prefer end of Evangelion then go watch that. I'm just glad their making more Evangelion, can't wait for the fourth.

I am ready for the fourth rebuild movie.

For me, the problems were not that they changed stuff.

The problems were that this episode was an incoherent mess. Things were not explained, there was no background, no motivation, no development and NO STORY. All the things that were starting to develop in the previous two episodes were just killed off and ended up getting nowhere. This episode did not make any sense on any level more than, maybe, visually.

This was like Terence Malick tried to do Evangelion.

I agree, it is like they need to do a EVANGELION 2.5: WE WILL (NOT) EXPLAIN WHAT HAPPENED IN THE 14 YEARS GAP.

Too many characters have changed without explanation. If this movie took time to explain things, it would have been acceptable.

And they really need to explain WILLE. How does Misato suddenly get the most advanced ship in the world, a fleet and an army of personnel while Gendo is sitting in the dark with like three followers.

And the spear explanation, I didn't get that. It came up from nowhere.

Incoherence was a understatement when it came to this movie.

This film failed because character development seems to have vanished

Mari was neutered in this film for no reason whatsoever (and she was one of the most interesting plots from previous film)

Asuka has just taken some bizarre turn (and no idea why name change)

Misato / Ritsuko are virtually unrecognisable with no explanation given (even the collar thing is confusing whether they really want to kill Shinji or no)

Wille is just pointless so far

And where they dropped the ball is with Kaworu
I actually had been looking forward to seeing his relation with Shinji
But nope no character development whatsoever

You can tell 3 is a bad film because it seems like there is nothing intrinsic to the plot of 4
Watching 2-3-4 gives as much story as watching 2-4
