who missing what everyone is hyped about. I saw 1.11 and 2.22 on Toonami and honestly these movies suck ass. The main character is as annoying as Black Star from Soul Eater but for the exact opposite reason.going on.

What really urks my nerves is the fact that nothing is ever explained. You place your viewers in a world very different then the one they live in and yet you don't give any exposition whatsoever.

- Why are teenagers piloting the suits, especially considering the obviously emotionally unstable one (Shinji). They mention they don't like kids risking their lives but they never actually state why they have kids, as opposed to mentally stable adults, as pilots.

- What are the Evans? Are they machines or living creatures?

- Why do pilots have controls and nuero connectors, wouldn't you really only need one or the other?

- What they hell are Angels? Are they aliens, monsters from another dimension, are they actually angels like in Bayonetta?

- Are these movies stand alone or do you have to watch a tv series to understand them?

If you have the answers to these questions, please help out someone who is genuinely lost.

Come back after you've watched the TV series (and End of Evangelion). It does a better job telling the story and the characters are a lot more fleshed out.

The Rebuild movies do an awfully terrible job at explaining something to the viewer. It's like Hideaki Anno created them for the people who already watched the original series, which might actually be the case. You should really watch it, it also explains most of your questions.
But to answer a few questions:

- the reason for only teenagers piloting the EVAs is that they have the strongest AT-fields (a protective shield every living being has to protect itself from getting hurt emotionally and physically) because they have almost zero social contacts and therefore are very distanced towards others. This results in a strong AT-field, which is effective against the Angels

- I won't spoil anything but they're enhanced living creatures that are tamed by NERV

- they're called Angels because they come from the sky and they are actually aliens, descendants of an ancient race which is connected to Adam that is kept under the headquarters of Nerv

- They're supposed to be standalone but I highly recommend to watch the series
