When she cuts the dog's throat, I thought it was because she was going to eat it. But I guess that was supposed to show that she had a violent nature and was psychotic.
I had not even thought about that until the second time I watched it.

Oh, so I did misinterpret it. I thought they really were eating reindeer and the girl was crying because she was sick of the life they had. As a sign that she wanted to leave. I guess I am confused why they showed her killing the dog like that as if it was some kind of message.

IMHO they where eating the dog, she remark's about it tough and next time should get a younger reindeer. i.e Dog meat not as tasty as Rudolph.
