There should be a warning to this movie

I found this movie more disturbing than any other movie I saw in my life and I watched "Irreversible" twice and loved it (not to mention all those porno-tortue silly movies).
From the very begining to the very horrible ending, it was not a happy ride to say the least. Maybe its the great acting which adds or ofcourse the oscar deserving cinematography which haunted me but the story was so cruel, I'm surprised no one mentioned it here in IMDB.
Despite being a beautiful film, I regret watching it.

It is definitely a film that leaves you with a feeling, pretty much like you need a shower to get clean and clear your mind from this truly intense film! After watching the poorly acted and written "Children of Huang Shi", this truly redeemed Yeoh in my eyes!

reply

LOL i too regret watching this film. you sum it up perfectly. i'm in shock and regret and i feel betrayed for caring so much. LOL

too weird to live, too rare to die

reply

... but just to get this straight, you found this movie more disturbing than the 10-20 minute rape scene in 'Irreversible'?

reply

This was a beautiful film. Just because it's disturbing doesn't mean it should come with a warning.

GOT D(AYM)!! SO MANY DRAMA QUEENS ON ONE THREAD, LoL

Your story doesn't line up. So feel free to stop lying anytime now...

reply

disturbig!
this movie tettered on the boring
whilst beautifuly filmed and acted there wasnt alot going on
horrific for the arty farty crowd perhaps

reply

A well acted, great looking film, it was none the less one of the most disturbing films I have ever seen. Mostly boring, followed by an absolutely hideous ending. I'm sorry I saw it.

reply

You think this film was disturbing to the point of regret?? Wow, you should NEVER watch Combat Shock< Santa Sangre, Funny Games or any of the other thousands of TRULY disturbing films out there.

reply

I watched the first 3 minutes of this film and shut it off--the very realistic depiction of a dog being killed really ruined this film for me. I thought this post might have dealt specifically with that, but it didn't, so I decided to reply. It might help someone else decided if they want to see this film or not. Wish I had seen a warning like that before I watched it.

reply

Well, if the dog scene doesn't put them off, I guess the ending which shows her choking her ward, then slicing off her face and wearing it so she can make love to her ward's lover, may (doesn't matter if it's spoiler, some people will WANT to watch the movie because of that, and others won't.)

reply

It took me about...1 minute to turn this off. Cutting a dog's throat at the beginning? Pass. It's that quick for me. :)

reply

Go *beep* yourself.

Hama cheez ba-Beer behtar meshawad!

reply

Thank you for the warning, count me amongst the vast numbers of dog/animal lovers that would prefer to avoid seeing this happen, simulated or otherwise. The face part? Now that's a serious spoiler from the rest of you, and I'm guessing a critical part of the story, unlike the dog scene which is just early character development. Now just waiting for the inevitable 'Oh but it's alright to kill people then is it?'

reply

I totally agree, I also regret watching this movie and it is totally gross. What a waste of time.

reply

Thank goodness for the spoilers here because I really want to go to bed but was going to stick with it to see how it ended. Now I know what happens I can go to bed without the gruesome bits embeded in my brain. It sounds shocking and not the thing to go to bed on.

reply

I was thinking the same but am definitely going to see out the ending.

I'm a tad gruesome ! :-)

reply

Hmm - it really wasn't anything shocking.

It was just an ending! Did you watch it?

I'm at a bit of a loss as to why anyone would find it disturbing - I've seen more disturbing stuff on Eastenders.

reply

EllieJ, I also watched the film through to the end, and although it's not by any means the most disturbing thing I've ever seen, it was still quite shocking and caught me totally off guard.

I've certainly never seen anyone on Eastenders do anything that would equate with cold-bloodedly killing their own offspring (though sometimes I wish they would - lol), nor anyone they brought up as their own for that matter, as the older woman did in Far North.

Nor have I seen anyone (outside of Silence of the Lambs) quite literally wear another person's face as their own, in order to fool that person's lover into thinking they were that person and make love to them.

You have to wonder if the curse on the older woman/murderess was to be believed. The ending certainly made it appear that way.

Some powerful performances by all three main cast members, Michelle Yeoh in particular.

"Three years...I promise."

I must truly be sadistic then. I thought it was kind of funny

reply

i thought it was brilliant.. michelle yeoh's performance was superb.. she really looks mysterious.. her eyes does all the acting.. though.. i really couldn't forget the ending.. it was insane in a good way.. lol.. the director got what he wants.

the first time i watched irreversible i had to turn it off at the rape scene...after i finally got around to finishing it, its one of my favorite movies...ppl should get over there fears and enjoy a movie for what it is, not what they want it to be something that challenges you can be good...as for this movie tho i didn't find it disturbing at all besides the extreme boredom i felt...
