Very similiar to McLeod's Daughters (Australia TV Series)

This show is on Tv tonight in Australia. Haven't seen it yet, but sounds similar to McLeod's Daughters:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0292414/

Earlier TV Movie of McLeod's Daughters:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0112068/

"Following the death of Jack McLeod, his two daughters, Tess and Claire (who are half sisters and do not get along with each other) inherit his cattle station in the Outback of South Australia. Both have different plans of what to do with the cattle station.

There have been 7 seasons of McLeod's in Australia, with the final season showing 2008.

I'm interested to watch Montana Sky tonight, to give my own review on it. So far, reviews haven't been overwhelming :(

It's almost exactly the same, it must be the American version of McLeod's Daughters. It should get credit in the..well credits!!!

I haven't seen this movie but after I read the synopsis I automatically assumed it was a rip off of McLeod's Daughters because the plot seemed too similar to the first season of McLeod's. I actually thought "plagiarism lawsuit alert". But... apparently it's based on a book. So my assumption was wrong. I guess it's just a coincidence.

It's interesting that both the book and the original McLeod's Daughters TV movie came out in 1996. Notice that, in both versions, one of the sisters is named Tess. Hardly a coincidence.

And Mercy vs Mcleod... Ive seen both, and they def have far too many similarities to be just coincidence!
Nora Roberts wrote the book Montana Sky in 1996, the same year the Mcleods Daughters movie came out. If anyone knows which was based on which, id be curious to know...

I thought the same when I first saw the movie. It's not really surprising. I mean there are really knew stories especially since most fiction is based on real life. Many people come up with the same stories at the same time. For McLeoud's Daughters or Montana Sky there are probably hundreds of stories with the same premise or something similar. Same with McLeoud's daughters. There are probably hundreds of people who came up with similar ideas that never got off the ground.

Either way it's a good way to see grown men on tv. Give me men like Myles Pollard any day.

I just remembered there was a movie with Melissa Gilbert and Lindsey Wagner called Thicker Than Water that had a similar premise.

i saw this movie for the first time last weekend.....we are far behind...lol..and what immediately came to my mind was Mcleods...yup, they are very similar, and also there was a one year series here in canada called wild roses.....so they are all similiar...my question is, who did the show first, i believe that nora wrote the book first, so mc's was done after it....but yeah, so much on tv has a similiar nature, right now and if you read romance novels, they are even more similiar in nature....lol

the only thing that i liked about montana was the ending, the rest, i'm not sure they knew where they were going with it.....i almost wanted to scream, dont' let it be the native, dont' let it be the native...lol..on heartland, )(another canadian series with a western flair to it)he got the shaft, even though in the novels, he and the lady did get married, so i was happy to see him get the girl in the end, on this movie..

reply

oh...lol....even mc's had one of the girls named the same...tess.....she was blond as well.....so that's another similarity...and the father, jack......

It's kind of funny, because the original "McLeod's Daughters" movie aired on Mother's Day in 1996 and 'Montana Sky' was published in 1996.

So the mystery of which came first continues.

Wellll... I don't think that Nora wrote the whole book in a year. I mean it's a really thick one too.
Also if she wrote the book after the movie than I can't see the reason WHY she should've been that obvious about it and named one of the girls Tess :p
That would be really stupid.
I think it's just a coincidence.
