Montana Sky is NOT a Family-Friendly Movie

I refer to a "family-friendly movie" as one with which I have no reservations or regrets allowing my 10- and 7-year-old watching. "Montana Sky" is NOT a "family-friendly movie".

Listed below are facts from the movie, nothing more. Deduce what you will.

- very risque wardrobe
- sexual discussions
- sexual situations
- sexual/vulgar language
- visual stabbings/murder
- visual gunshot/attempted murder
- visual signs of physical, spousal abuse
- aggravated kidnapping

I watched movies 10x worse than this when I was young and I am not a cereal killer. I thought it was a sweet movie I don't know why (even with the above listed reasons) you would think this movie will somehow corrupt your children. Just saying.

reply

As did I. And, I was not a Christian at that time.

reply

Oooh ok, now I get it. Well I have never been religious but my whole family is, and they still let me watch those movies. :D

reply

I'm scratching my head. If you have strict guidelines for what you let your children watch, why are you asking random people on the internet who probably don't have the same guidelines?

I'm thinking common sense would tell ANY parent that a book based on a Nora Roberts romance novel would not be a family movie.

reply

Totally agree with you! Why would anyone think a book based on a romance movie was "family entertainment" I thought the movie was very good and had no reservations (with permission) letting my 11 year old niece watch it with me..see can see worse than this during the day if she lands on a soap opera while changing the channel

Cereal killer LOL... I didn't know breakfast could be murdered :p

reply

HAHAHA! That's exactly what I was thinking. "Cereal killer?" Damn, what is the world coming to? What did the cornflakes ever do to you man?

Ever mine. Ever thine. Ever ours.

reply

What made you think it was a "family friendly" movie in the first place? It's based on a romance novel by Nora Roberts. Of course it was going to be at least sexual.

reply

I'm very glad the reviewer posted what's in the movie. The cover says it is "family friendly," thus people will think it's family friendly. And, although I've heard the name Nora Roberts, I don't read fiction and have never read one of her books. (I'm strictly a non-fiction reader, aside from children's books for the kids.) Therefore, I would have no idea that her novels would be sexual.

The movie is NR at the library - not rated, so you have no idea what the content is. (I chose another seemingly innocent movie, and fortunately a friend of mine watched it first and told me there are several naked scenes so now I'm cautious with NR movies.) I googled Montana Sky to see if it was appropriate for my 10 year old and I think I'll pass on watching it.

I would never let my kids watch soap operas either. And my kids do eat a lot of cereal, but to my knowledge they have Lucky Charms, Trix the Rabbit and Snap Crackle Pop are still running free. Glad to hear others enjoyed "cereal killer" as much as I did!

reply

Grow up you baby.

reply

That's exactly what she's doing! How about you?

reply

Doing better than you it would seem.

reply

Well not to be rude but most movies on Lifetime are not family-friendly movies. That and it's based on a book by Nora Roberts who is a romance novelest.

reply

look, it may not be family-friendly like watching the polar express or something. but, for christ's sake you are talking about a tv movie. i watched it with my friggin gma. u folks need to grow up and stop letting that wacko christianity religion brainwash u. if my 7 year old wants to see this movie than fine, but to tell you the truth i think she would be more interested in watching hannah montana than montana sky at that age.

reply

true that!! ^^^^^^^^

reply

I must have missed the part where anyone said this WOULD be a family friendly movie. Did you bother to check out the novel at all, which doesn't hide the fact that there are very disturbing images of gore and murder? Or even the author, who is known for writing romantic/sexual books?

If you are turned off by the fact that this is not a family friendly movie, then perhaps you should do research on and screen what you let your kids watch instead of pointing out how un G-rated this movie is. Not everything on TV HAS to be on a five year old level. Some of us prefer depth and substance instead of pandering to parents who insist on everything being OK for kids instead of taking responsibility for what their children watch.

What do they got in there, King Kong?

reply

Whatever, loser.

reply

Why are you being so hateful & trying to cause trouble? Just don't watch it or do, then move on

reply

Was this advertised as a family freindly movie? Its was on Lifetime and it is a Nora Roberts film... those usually mean that it is not considered a family freindly film. Also, just because someone isn't a christian, doesn't mean that they do not have morals and values. Atheists, Buddhists, etc. can be nicer and more decent than a Christians (I am saying this as a Christian myself).

reply

I enjoyed the movie myself and as for family friendly, you have three sisters getting to know each other for the first time.

reply

Did you really think a book based on a romance novel was going to be totally "non-sexual" the movie was not bad at all there are just as horrible things in the middle of day....do you or have you ever watched soap operas? I don't but they are pretty "racy" for a middle of the day program! It was a good movie

reply

Have you not heard of Nora Roberts? Romantic thrillers are her thing. And if u thought the movie wasnt very family appropriate, then i would strongly suggest not letting ur kids anywhere near the book cause the movie is Cinderella in comparison! This movie got an "M" rating for mature audiences in my country, and I personally think that was a little strong. I watched it with my mum and we both loved it!! As for your complaints, the basically boil down to low level violence, sexual references and maybe low level coarse language - not exactly the makings of an R rated film. You want to protect your kids, dont let them watch lifetime movies.

reply

I'm sorry, but could you please tell me the name of the planet that you are originally from? Because everyone here on Earth knows that Norah Roberts is a steamy romance novelist whose plots almost always involve murder, violence and sex. Why on Earth (yeah the 3nd planet) would you even begin to imagine that a movie based on a NR book would be appropriate for children? And having finally figured that out, why bother to post about it here? WE ALREADY KNEW THAT!

I'm just wondering how many other postings you have made here telling people about your narrow-minded life.
