Good if you can find it

I was lucky to find this gem at my local multiplex. I had read about it in the local free paper. If you can get thru the first 5 minutes without thinking about Cliff from Cheers, I promise you will find this to be the type of movie you could see more of. It's not a rehash (the writing is refreshingly good), remake or attempt at updating older and/or more tired movies, classic and otherwise. I loved the young female lead, she is a real find and I hope to see more of her. I don't know what Mr Ratzenberger has been doing since Cheers, but I've missed seeing him on film, TV or otherwise. Yes the Oscar nominated films are good (some, anyway). This will probably never see an Oscar, but it is a film that I guarantee you will not consider a waste of time and money. I thanked the theater management for having the foresight to book this film.

I saw it at the Newport Beach Film Festival and was blown away. It's a delightful, sweet, funny film. Shelly Cole is amazing and John Ratzenberger makes you forget Cliff Clavin ever existed. If this does as well as I hope it does on DVD, he's in for a very renewed career.

The acting overall from all the supporting characters is high with special mention of the guy who plays Art's friend, the cute funny old lady who plays his neighbor who's kind of the Greek Chorus, the man who plays the scummy landlord, and a short but very funny performance by the guy who plays the sleazy mortician.

The direction was great because the director didn't try to do anything fancy. He just put the camera in the right places and let his story, which he also wrote, play out. And the original music was mostly outstanding. I hope it becomes available.

Like Little Miss Sunshine, I hope this one finds a wide audience. It's an original in a sea of remakes.

John Ratzenberger has been doing all the Disney stuff. I'm sure he'd love to keep showing up for work in his pajamas and never have to worry about make up again. I definitely plan on getting this on DVD when it comes out next month.
