Does anyone actually like it?

I thought this movie was really a total insult to the series, butstill find myself enjoying it. I am not saying its good movie, its crap, but does anyone esle actually like the absolute terribleness of it? ANyone enjoy how campy, and poor and stupid it is?
I actually liked Brendan Fraser in this. Honestly.

On a planet of 7 billion I'm sure there are plenty of people who lack taste and think this movie was good. Everyone in this signed up for the paycheck and nothing more.

Say what, you look to insult? No reason for that.
Point in fact I liked it very much.

I liked it a LOT. Was it the best of the series? Absolutely not, but it sure as hell was a fun action-packed thrill ride. Yes it sucked completely that Rachel was replaced, and that was why it was a letdown. But if she was in it, it for sure would have been better. But i don't hate it; i just wish Universal Pictures would make a sequel with the WHOLE original cast in it; Brendan Frasier, Rachel Weisz, John Hannah, and maybe a guest appearance or new role for Oded Fehr because he really made the second film

"Here we go again."

reply

I think the actors that were absent (Weisz, Oded Fehr) turned it down because they had dignity. They're too good for this movie and it'd be embarrassing to come back to a pointless sequel 7 years later just for the paycheck.

Yeah, Roger Ebert, you know.. one of the best critics in the world, is one of those who lack taste.

not one of the "best" critics, just one of the most famous

When I first saw it in theaters I tought it was a total insult to the series just as you did, but I didn't like it one bit. If I watch it again i'll still think it's an insult to the first two movies, but I may like it for the same reason you did, for the "terribleness" of it all. I don't know, I may see it soon again.

Love the first 2 films, hate this.

The first movie is fantastic, one of the best action/adventure flicks of this type since Indiana Jones IMO. The second one was also really good, not quite as good as the first but still very enjoyable. The third one was complete crap. I'll never watch it again. So no, I didn't enjoy it. There are some bad movies that I can at least get a laugh out of, "so bad they're good", but this one is just plain bad, I can't make myself enjoy it.

Oh I totally agree with the first being as the best action/adventure since Indiana Jones. Its such a great movie. I never get tired of watching it every time its on tv.

reply

Yeah, and I didn't mean to imply anything about you or anyone who likes the third movie, it's just not my cup of tea lol... I only saw it once and all I really remember about it is thinking what a drag it was. To me it personifies everything that is wrong with the modern movie industry (much in the same way as recent music, but that's a whole 'nother discussion), all flash and no substance, a perfect example of how CGI doesn't make a movie, a pure cash-in. They didn't even have the original actress for Evie (very important in this series to me), but that's probably my smallest complaint, this movie was just awful.

An example of CGI done well = the first two Mummy movies, it adds to what is already an excellent movie with a good tight script and great actors and crew with great chemistry, who were all obviously really enjoying themselves. Lord of the Rings is another example, EXTREME CGI in those movies (I mean there's hardly a scene without some kind of CGI going on), but it never becomes the focus because the human connection to the characters and their plight is so strong, it becomes supplementary to what is already a strong film, as it should be. The 3rd Mummy movie was just them trying to make a movie with no foundation, just throwing out random CGI creatures and effects without anything else being positively contributed. It's kind of how I feel about a lot of movies now like Transformers and such (soulless CGI explosion-fests), only at least Transformers was somewhat enjoyable for one viewing (though I never watched it again), whereas Mummy 3 was just bleh.

Hehe I realize I'm carrying on an awful lot about a movie! I just dislike when they make movies just for the sake of making a movie, to make money, without first establishing a foundation for it (a reason to care about what's happening and not doze off), and instead they just fill it with CGI (unfortunately it literally has nothing else going for it at this point) and call it a summer blockbuster. To me it wasn't even enjoyable as a bad movie, it just annoyed me more than anything else (maybe because I hated seeing what had become of the great Mummy series, who knows). An enjoyably bad movie to me (like I can laugh at it), is something like Lazer Blast, but even with garbage like that I have to filter it through Mystery Science Theater 3000, lol.

As a fan of the series, I loved this one. It's not as good as the first two. The only thing I couldn't stand was Luke Ford's awful acting. Couldn't they have gotten a more well known actor to play Alex? And replacing Weisz was a risky move but I still had alot of fun with it.

reply

The script was terrible. I can see, why Rachel Weisz refused to be in this movie and she was so damn right. The previous two movies were enjoyable and funny, because their script was good. This one was boring. The missing chemistry between Rick and Evie and lack of humour/goofiness of Alex and Jonathan ruined this movie, their characters were badly written in here.
Also those recasts, Maria Bello and Luke Ford were terrible choice, they lack charisma. But honestly, nobody with taste would agree to play in this movie. I feel sorry for Fraser, who played in it just because he closed a rich deal for trilogy.

I do like Jet Li and Michelle Yeoh, but if I wanted to watch another chinese action movie with them, I would go for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Hero or Fearless. I dont like that they have made a classical chinese action movie out of this. To place the story in China instead of Egypt was the biggest mistake they have made.
I kind of liked Ardeth Bay and Imhotep in previous movies and wanted to see them again... but what the hell would they do in China?

I will ignore this movie. Or maybe I need to be drunk to enjoy the terribleness of it :)

I thought it was pretty crap, but I laughed when at the end Jonathan (or whoever said it) says something like "I'm gonna go somewhere where there's no mummies, like Peru" and then just before the credits rolled a caption appeared on the screen saying "Soon after, mummies were found in Peru".

I had a bad feeling about this one from the preview. it was cool to see Jonathan and Rick again and i honestly have nothing against maria bello really but i just missed rachel. i heard she didn't do the film because of bad script and being a mom that couldn't travel to the extent this movie required. i can't fault her one bit for either of those reasons. i loved the first two movies but you can't pay me to watch this one in its entirety again. who else wanted to smack that alex kid? i didn't mind him in the second film but grown-up alex? no just no. not gonna lie i found a few parts interesting but in pales in comparison with the other two. if there is another sequel i don't think brendan is gonna be the star. if anything he'll do a cameo. i don't see any of them opting out of cameos but if they continue this i'm afraid that the main character will be alex and that just does not sit well.
