Why the hell is there an Asian as a maniac?
If these people are all from the south? I mean, I get the black musician but why the Asian with the long nails?

shareI believe it is a reference to the wave of Chinese immigrants who came to America and ended up being exploited as a cheap labor force, working on railroads and such, and they were in the south as well as the north and the west.
shareIf I'm not mistaken, that wave of immigrants did not penetrate beyond the west until after the Civil War. For one thing, before the Union victory, the menial labor that was the main employment for immigrants was largely performed by slaves, which made it rather inhospitable for immigrants of all races and ethnicities.
Why are you looking to a movie like this for historical accuracy anyway?
Angel to some, demon to others.
My first thoughts on seeing her, and hearing her talk, was maybe she was a prostitute or something, but in one of the scenes near the end, Buckman more or less tells her to do the laundry like they originally brought her to the town for.
shareI think it's a reference to a crappy casting agent
shareBecause it takes places in modern time and there are plenty of Asians living in the south. Did you really think the movie was supposed to take place in the late 1800's?
i know i always thot that was kind of stupid...
"Hello from the gutters of NYC"
Husband and I were discussing this. We were wondering if it was a goof, or whether it was something to do with the first film. SPOILERS FOR 2001 MANIACS BELOW.....
We thought that the black man and the Asian lady may have been the ghosts of the black man and the Chinese lady killed in 2001 Maniacs. But looking at things, maybe we were reading too much into it.
