HaHahAhaHA!!!!

OMG was this bad. Made only worse by the fact that it was a fun idea that went horribly wrong. Who wrote this, a ten year old? The dialog is superfluous to a degree I've never seen before in a film done by professionals. Stating and restating and then re-restating, etc...the obvious until you wanted to jab your ear with a blunt object to offer some relief from the tedious words. I'm not sure how movies like this are made. I'm amazed that in this day and age, a substantial budget can be procured for a script this bad. I mean, didn't anyone read it prior to filming?
I could write a book on how terrible this was. For instance, the opening credit sequence. What were they trying to say? "Look how blue his eyes are" "Look again, there still really really blue." "Guess what? His eyes are still extremely blue."
If you really can't help yourself and feel compelled to watch this, fast forward liberally between the action sequences and skip the dialog. You'll thank me for it.

reply

If you can write a book about it then why don't you? Or are you just talk? Obviously you have what it takes to create SOMETHING, so show us...show the world.

reply

"A substantial budget." What on earth do you think AUD 200k is worth? It's for nothing, it's a miracle that they managed to make any kind of film for that amount, which wouldn't cover the catering on a major Sorrywood effort.

Know-it-all little twerp.

you said it!
I couldn't hardly finish it. My Wife kept waking me up.
But Once again, I made the mistake of Taking IMDb vote for a quick factor :(
Voting system is so bad here!
Many users never give there honest opinion!!. That spoils it for us real movie buffs, at least mature ones!, You can't vote a 1 or 10 on a movie when 90% of the users are voting mid range votes....HELLO??
I've been using this site for about 2+ years now, still hoping they revise the voting system somehow.
I give Gabriel (2007) a 3, because it had some good appeal to it.

reply

Low budget is no excuse for a bad script. Decent idea just crappy dialogue.

They spell just fine, but with some grammatical errors. Learn the difference, then bitch(notice where I put the comma. It's not where I'd like it to be). Not typing properly ON DA INTARWEBS doesn't always mean you're an idiot. Most people couldn't care less.

reply

No, just making sure people are allowed to have an opinion. I'm just sick of people bitching about spelling and grammar all the time. I don't like it myself, but I still let them have their own opinion.

reply

If you cant type well, that just means your a retard. Its the easiest thing a person can do and you've been taught how to spell for over 10 years.

reply

"your a retard" is actually spelled - "You're a retard"

Yes you only have that opinion because you dont care ! that will be a really nice trait for your kids to pick up on ...Oh hey ..bugger school dad says spelling and grammar doesn't matter in this life..hahahah the mind really does boggle my friend..

and also the first poster didnt spell correctly smart arse ..

reply

Wow. Did you even read what I wrote? I said it shouldn't matter that much because it's an internet message board. It's the way it goes. Dissing people trying to say something about a random topic is such a miss it's not even funny.

Anyway, are you actually saying it IS important? Because you can't seem to use proper syntax to save your life. "and also the first poster didnt spell correctly smart arse .." What the hell kind of punctuation is that? If you wanna attack people on ridiculous things like you're doing in this case you should atleast be able to type on a damn fourth grade level. But have fun with your internet. We're having fun with you, that's for damn sure. : )

reply

Internet = serious business.

Anyone that picks movies based on IMDB's public boards or rating as issues. There's a reason that the professionals get paid to be critics and not every yuk on the internet.

Letting the general public influence my decisions would be... disastrous.

Oh man, I just found my way back to this thing. I find it hilarious that I'm being told spelling matters by a person who can't punctuate to save his life.

And you correct someones use of apostrophes when you don't use them anywhere. Ever.

You should also take a look at some comma rules. It makes your sentences readable. You should try it. : )

reply

Actually mogwart..er..mudpi, or whatever. Your right. Not typing properly "ON DA INTARWEBS" does not ALWAYS mean you're an idiot. It just means that you are for pointing it out. If, as you say "no one cares" then wtf reason made you even bother to respond? I know. You had posted under a different user name before and were one of the tw@ts that didn't spell or use grammar correctly. Understand, grammar is taught differently at different levels and for alternate types of written text, so really when it comes to grammar, no one, unless in a business or published work, would really or perhaps should really care. But bad spelling is indicative of poor intelligence. As for the original poster, you are the joke ( the movie f*&king rocked). Make something of yourself and then talk, but don't bitch about others work, it makes you even more of a bitch.
Oh yeah, and please, please do shove a sharp object into your ear, maybe it will prod some actual real thought into your head, or at least make you quiet.

I didn't really want to buy into this argument, but that seems a pretty arbitrary distinction you're making there. 'Bad spelling' could just as easily be a result of typographical errors or unfamiliarity with a particular word. Neither is indicative of sub-normal intelligence. On the other hand, agrammatical sentences (especially if lacking inappropriate punctuation) can often be disastrous when it comes to conveying meaning. I much more often skip posts altogether where the grammar is awry, not because I 'care', but because they are frequently impenetrable and needlessly time-consuming.

AW500 - I am sure people who vote on IMDB would be giving their honest opinion on rating at the time. As I write this, the average score is 5.4 of 10 - hardly one that would tell me to rush out and see this film. What average score do you take from IMDB as being worthy of determining whether you see a film or not - 7 or 8? Just curious as to your take and also how you prove that people are not providing honest scores. Have you ever considered NOT referring to reviews or IMDB polls prior to seeing a film?

Given that you are a mature film buff, I would expect that you would be able to see a film on its merits, rather than on whether a review says it is good or bad. I certainly would not refrain from seeing a film (or vice versa) based on a rating or review. Films, as you well know, impact people differently and more so at different periods of their life. They're too subjective. You cannot hammer the younger folks for giving films higher marks than you would. I am sure that when you were younger, you thought some films were absolutely "hot *beep* and "the bomb", yet as you got older you wondered "how did I ever think THAT was any good!!"

Btw, if you had to recommend to IMBD "how to revise their voting system" what would you suggest? What are your thoughts on how it can be improved to ensure that the truest votes are counted and not just 1 or 10s as you state in another thread?

I wanted to see this film for a while since I heard about it and finally watched it a couple of nights back on DVD. I did not read any reviews or refer to IMBD prior. Disappointed with the end result - somewhat. Annoyed that I watched it? No. My rating = 3/10. The premise was interesting, however I think the budget clearly had an impact on the end result. Clearly this would have affected the quality of the script as it was not the best in regard to dialogue.

I so agree with you. I don't understand why expectations are so low in Australia with movies. I mean, if this was the usual Hollywood fodder it would be torn limb from limb and paraded through the streets by movie critics while audiences pointed and laughed. And then it would of received a well-deserved sentence to serve in the vaults of c-grade straight-to-video release. I'm not saying Australia is incapable of making great movies, far from it. I just think there is a culture of acceptance of crap movies in the name of national pride.

This movie was so abominably bad I felt annoyed at the waste of compacted sand and silicon that was molded into a disc to store this steaming turd of a film on its innocent interior.

Why don't we all just leave the personal attacks out of the discussion of this movie? I have yet to watch it but I am going to do so within the next day or so. I came to IMDB to check out popular opinion. The only thing I discovered is that the people posting are more interested in insulting each other than in discussing the movie.

Frankly, I'm disappointed.

reply

thank you shadowphile, people here seem to think that IMDB is a great place to randomly insult people rather than give an honest OPINION on the movie, just because someone doesnt agree with you doesnt mean that they are wrong!

reply

I'm not sure if you're defending them(like I did) or just attacking me, but I like the part where you read my comment history so far back to actually find the supposed vitriloic comments. Most of my comments on imdb are written because jackasses decides to rag on someone for little or no reason. Because it's fun to annoy jackasses.

Oh, and my mis-spaced bracket? Please. : D

We rented this movie this week-end. It was so bad, we stopped it after 5 minutes. The main actor seems to be coming out of a calvin klein ad and has no talent at acting at all. I want those 5 minutes wasted back!

reply

To be fair on the actors I think that the script definately did them no favours and kudos to the first poster with the "Blue eyes." Comment. So true.

Also, the fact that the actors had to speak in non specific accents would have been hard also.

P.S. I'm being careful with my grammer so that I don't get attacked.

reply

Jeez, people. Some people can spell better than others so why don't you just back off. Trying to show you're a big man by insulting other people?

Anyway, I thought the acting was fairly decent but as was stated before, they didn't have much to work with in terms of the script. My problem with it was the script, the fight scenes look like they've been practiced so many times they look phony ("You hit here, then I'll hit here. There we go, just like in rehearsal") and just the general feel of the movie. I've seen movies that were created for less but were way better in execution.

You watched a movie a whole 5 minutes and you think you deserve to rate it AND it's actors?

This is why we don't check the rating before watching a movie: it doesn't take into account the teens with the attention span of a chipmunk.

reply

If you payed attention even for the credits, then you would be able to determine that the first scene shows the difficulty for Gabriel to orient himself to the world (his speaking and continuously falling down). Also the voice in his head is his soul's connection with others.
