Why didn't Gabriel just...

If Sammael/Michael could harness the energy of the other fallen, why couldn't Gabriel just do the same to get the power to defeat him? It didn't seem like his arch lacqueys suffered from it.

And why, at the end, didn't Gabriel 'return to the light' when he eventually did defeat Michael? Wasn't that he whole plan/task; to defeat him?

And what was Amitiel's role in everything anyway?

And to get biblical about it: Why did God send arch angels to earth in human forms and allow all that mayhem in the first place. Isn't God omniscient and omnipotent? That would mean that he (God) would have known exactly what was going to happen, and how the fallen corrupted the city in the first place.

Did God send the seven to earth in human form just for entertainment?
The most powerful angels of all (archangels), having a biblical history of coming to earth in their angelic form, are made human and vulnerable and set up against each other for bloody violence?

And additionally with the sacrifice of losing their souls? What is the logic of the archs losing their souls when their human bodies were killed, anyway?

I wanted to do the same, to gather the power of all of them, but Samael killed them before the could have the idea... o maybe its something only the fallen ones can do

Its not Earth, its the Purgatory, the laws are different, there the arch angels have liberty and can choose to obey or not to obey

.The process was never explained. It may well have been an urban legend among the arcs, because I think they are the only ones who talk about it and they don't realise the Sammael/Michael connection.
And why, at the end, didn't Gabriel 'return to the light' when he eventually did defeat Michael? Wasn't that he whole plan/task; to defeat him?
The light returned to Purgatory, but Gabriel clearly beginning to believe Michael's words about the angels just being used and abused (paraphrasing), doesn't return to Heaven.
And what was Amitiel's role in everything anyway?
She was like most of the other arcs, but a little less wimpy. She'd fought Sammael, been defeated and punished through forced prostitution and drug abuse. Gabriel helps her and she provides some comfort to him before the final confrontation.
And additionally with the sacrifice of losing their souls? What is the logic of the archs losing their souls when their human bodies were killed, anyway?
That just comes with the territory of being in Purgatory. This is part of the reason Michael and it is inferred may be Gabriel (post credits scene) turn. Michael essentially tells Gabriel he was sick and tired of just being a convenience measure for God and would rather stay and rule Purgatory on his own terms, beyond the realm of God.
