This movie is not BAD, just low budget...

I actually enjoyed 'Gabriel', granted it is not some Hollywood dynamo production but for what it IS I feel it is quite enjoyable.

The production value is evident from the start, but after some minor research you will find that the writer/director had next to no backing and used his OWN hard earned money, which was limited, to bring this project to light...no pun inteded.

All in all it is a great premise and the story is very fitting, the acting on behalf of a few actors/actresses is a bit lacking or amatuerish but for the key charachters it is acceptable if not impressive at times.

In closing, give this movie a chance, just understand that is is not going to blow you away with acting/star power nor are the special effects anything remarkable. What this movie has that many do not is a great premise, presenting a relatable story in a way that many similar films do not.

Another more mainstream Hollywood film of late that is reminiscent of 'Gabriel' (07') is 'Legion' (10') and in my opinion 'Gabriel' is much, much better considering you like these kind of stories/films and appreciate their dilemma/storyline.

Legion: 5 Stars out of Ten *****

Gabriel: 7 Stars out of Ten *******

I'd rate 'Gabriel' higher simply on the fact that the writer/director truly put everything he had into this endeavor and I rather enjoyed it in the end.

For me this is the best low budget film of the decade.

I agree completely, the atmosphere in the movie is great. i hope for a sequel!!!

for a low budget i loved what they did with the atmosphere in terms of color, the editing of action scenes, the acting was great considering the cast, and the plot was actually a fairly good one compared to other angel/demon based films.

i liked this movie! i didn't think it looked low budget i really liked the dark lighting in it!

I think only the large amounts of close-up shots made me think of it being low budget. But in the ethereal, dystopian purgatory, the close-ups worked. Faces floating in painful darkness.
I think it is a splendid example of what you can do in film without a Bay budget.

This movie was simply amazing. The concept and the story lines of the angels are brilliant, IMO.

I thought so as well. Not only did they come up with a good concept but they followed through and delivered.
Not all film-makers can do that.
I'm not trying to bash another film. Or troll. But for me, a good example of relying on merely the idea( with big budget stars as the draw instead of plot or dialogue or anything unimportant like that) and then failing to deliver is Cowboys & Aliens. It was a decent enough concept. Having nearly infinite possibilities. But the concept only made it as far as the title of the movie. For me the rest was shabbily executed and I was bored. I expected a myriad of possibilities for C&A. Some good. Some bad. But I never expected outright boredom. And Jon Favreau is not a director I dislike.
Gabriel, on the other hand, with merely a tiny portion of C&A's budget, never left me bored.

I would say this film was extremely bad. Dark all the time, talking and some fights. I was totally uninterested watching it. And I actually tried to watch it three times.
I would say this film is only waste of time.

It's a clever film to watch knowing the issues the film makers had with budgets and the lack thereof. Curiously even though it ended up making money and was generally pretty well - received critically, Shane Abbess appears to have done little film making since Gabriel's release. He's in the midst of making his next film now. I'll be interested to see what becomes of it.

I actually saw this at the cinema and almost half walked out. I couldn't believe it, never seen anything like it! But it could have been because of its marketing? My boyfriend and I didn't really know what it was about, when the cinema staff told us the plot we thought it sounded good (We went to see a movie on a whim). I don't think the audience realised how low budget it was (or the fact that it was Australian - let's face it, it has a bad rap) which caused people to walk out. My boyfriend kept bugging me to leave, but I was kinda into it
