STAY TO AFTER CREDITS

I saw the film again last night but I didn't realise that the film resolves after the credits...

Please tell us what happens after the credits - it was past midnight and I was late home for the babysitter!!

reply

i was leaving then it just came on...
they made us sit through the credits to see that?

i guess it means hes not dead?

reply

[[[[SPOILERS!!]]]]

Anyone else notice he had the eyes of a Fallen?

[END SPOILERS]

reply

yeah I noticed that...

so Im confused about what that was all about...I only stayed till after the credits the second time i saw it!

Wonder if it is explained anywhere...cos its not like a second movie will come out and explain it to us!

Hmm!

reply

the_devils_daughter_7: "cos its not like a second movie will come out and explain it to us! "

Gabriel was planned as the first part of a trilogy. There may indeed be another movie to explore what happens next.

reply

Oh really? thats so cool.....im looking forward to that.

bring on the trilogy!

reply

yep.
its gonna be made into a trilogy.

pretty cool i reckon.
i read about it in empire...

I disagree. I don't think it's god at all. I think he has returned to Jade. Suicide is a sin and as such he can't return to heaven, but because of his service in returning light to purgatory, instead of being cast into hell he has been permitted to return to stay with Jade, but is no longer an angel, as he has fallen from grace. At least that's my take. It took me two viewings to nut this out, and of course I could be wrong. You remember the scene when he says to Jade "After tonight, you'll never see me again"? I think he is referring to Gabriel the Arc, not Gabriel the human.
Anyway, great film in my opinion.

reply

I dont get it at all! but i love the movie! & the actor! :D

reply

Just watched the movie via DVD...Nothing after credits...

Not sure what to think about the ending...What I do know is that the movie was very good in my opinion. Interested in hearing what others have to say about the why's and theories to the ending...

reply

I agree but the part where he was talking to Jade, he is on a mission and he planned from start to complete it, never seeing Jade agains so be it. Wasn't until the Michael and his double persona Gabe was like what the hell is going on that we can't complete our job and go back.
If the Micheal the highest fell he wants to know why. He used his free will to deny Michael and he used it again to stay on earth and the falling from the building was his second falling, being human forever.

very good good film/ take on the Fallen and Arcs

Well, I watched an awful copy with decent picture but really bad translation into Russian (my mother tongue) over German audio (crazy, yes), and it had only black three seconds aftercredits with music but no picture, unfortuantely. But even with that poor translation I believe THAT was explained before the credits actually: where he says he cannot let this happen, that he has to experience this (hurt, darkness, being fallen is not named but implied), and later he'll be reborn as another archangel, then he says goodbye to (GOD?) and let himself literally but also meaningfully enough (too slowly) FALL from the roof. So I got the meaning he'd wanted to become a fallen himself, although it makes the final bit rather disappointing for me, and I didn't completely get the meaning of this event (well, the sunrise does add a bit of optimism, but how then if he became fallen indeed?). I thought I need to watch the original to tell if I really got what creators wanted to say because translation was real bad (I can sense this as translator). Well, that bit that there was a trilogy planned may be explains why I was left with the feeling of unfinished thought other than bad translation.

reply

Course he had. He killed him self so he is going to hell.

reply

I also watched it on DVD and had nothing after the credits, just black screen for about 30 seconds. anyway, i am pretty sure about the ending. he said that the arc's job is to go to earth, kill the fallen and go back. upon return however, he would forget everything. except he did not want that. he did not want to forget because he felt love. so he renounced his wings to become mortal (just like nicolas cage in city of angels)and to spend his life with jade. seems like the proper ending to me.
anyway, great movie. :D

reply

I also got the dvd and saw nothing after the credits. I wonder if only the aus release had the extra clip at the end.

reply

yep, that is exactly what i was thinking, the whole nic cage, "City of Angels" falling from the building to become mortal, not to commit suicide. Only mortals with souls can commit suicide and Gabe wasn't mortal until he metaphorically fell (from the building) and about the Fallen eyes, I'm pretty sure it was because he was feeling the sin of anger. Can't have anger or sin for that matter in Heaven!

reply

I could hardly stay awake before the credits....

reply

Maybe you should get more sleep.

yeah, please! someone post it,because the dvd don't have it.

reply

I too have the DVD and felt it was strange that there was 30 seconds of blank screen with no picture. Pictures of Gabriel with fallen eyes, eh?

Were they the same eyes he had when he was killing Asmodius? When I saw his eyes turn like that during that scene I thought he had fallen, but then they turned back to normal. Very wierd.

I also found it wierd that during the whole fight at the end he was without a doubt dedicated to completing the mission even when he knew who "Sammael" was...and then did a complete 180 becoming depressed and "crazy" like that. Just didnt seem right to me. even after the explinations as to what happens at the end I'm still not totally convinced by his sudden character change.

And another thing...we learn about the fates of all the other Arcangels...except for one. Ramiel is mentioned only at the very begining when Gabriel is decending to Purgatory. Is he dead or did he disappear (i.e. went into hiding) like the others did? Why is he never metioned by anyone?

reply

His character change was so drastic because at first he was going to die with Michael (Samael). But Michael healed him before he died. Thus, Gabriel still having to live with all that he had learned and experienced but that he had killed his closest Arch brother.

And i was wondering about Ramiel too. But if they make another one... then we might see him in it too.

reply

Ramiel was killed they mentioned that in the movie. Not sure if it was Uriel or Raphael who revealed that.

reply

I was very happily surprised with this film!!

reply

I think the end is pretty clear. Even though it's not very consistent.
After all the preaching to Michael, Michael save his soul, saving Gabriel's life instead of his own, with his last sparkle of power. While Michael, in spite of his earlier speech to Michael, decide that God's will is not fair, because he will simply make new archangels and forget it all. And then, he falls. He didnt say he became mortal, he exactly talks about the fall (metaphorically as a fallen angel, and also throwing himself from the building). And to be sure audience undestood, he said that for an angel the last thing he feels before the fall is the very falling, but finally in his own head. Like saying that he freed himself from God's will.

So... He saved Michael's soul, and lost his own....
Mh... not smart, Gabry.

reply

I also saw this on DVD and there is noting after the credits. S'up with that?

reply

As it is referenced in so many things, when an angel gives up their wings they fall from grace. Like in City of Angels and other such depictions, jumping off a building is the literal sense of "Falling' from grace. In doing this, it turns him human. Or he could have just jumped because he either feared he was losing his grip and falling prey to evil or he saw no point in returning to heaven.I didnt see the credits so i could be completely wrong and he could just be dead or uber evil. Either way you slice it... A) it was an eefin awesome movie. B) It would be fabulous if they made a sequel!

reply

i dont think he became mortal and if the clip that everyone in the theatres saw exist that proves that theory, by the way where was this theatres i thought it was straight to dvd
one other thing i thought there were only 7 archs
sammaiel who turned, i thought he was originally an arch
micheal the man bad guy
gabriel
uriel the bum
rapheal the injured
atherieal the soup kitchen guy and
the chick
so whats up with rammiel that would make 8
and they only showed 5-6 of the fallen
i thought the opening indicated there were 7 on each side

reply

the movie stated that at least one of the archangels died-died.

life was playing a series of unamusing jokes on me...

reply

sammiel and micheal (spellings wrong I'm sure) were the same... you realize? hopefully... >_> although.. yeah... unless the other rapist guy gabe shoots is a fallen.. I'm gonna go the the assumption that he was killed pre-micheal going turncoat... so probably the girl (who's name I won't attempt) took that one out, or raphiel maybe... the others didn't seem to be much for the fight... yeah, no special after the credits... though. gabes eyes changing could have serious effect on my feeling about the movie, and it's meaning.. has anyone seen the special on dvd, or only theaters?

reply

and in response to my own thought... he gets his neck broke in the beginning

reply

sometimes scenes like the 'red eye Gabe' after the credits are shown at the cinema, then either removed completely for dvd release or kept as part of the 'deleted scenes' special features...for whatever reasons.

I saw the scene the cinema, but even here in Australia, our dvd release lacks the eyes at the end as well. The dvd only came out here yesterday, watched it last night, I haven't checked the deleted scenes, but it maybe in that part of the disc.

reply

So this isn't really on topic, but I'm gonna say this.. shortly after thanking fortress for the info... I don't hate australians now(not that I really hate aussies, but keeping a whole hidden scene.. that's just greedy :P) okay.. for serious. it's not in the deleted scenes.. at least not US

and for what I was talking about being off topic..

I watched I Am Legend tonight, a movie I saw in theaters, and I remember enjoying at the time. Of course I did, why would I buy it, right?

Well here's my problem. I find myself glancing towards Gabriel, and there seems to be a bitter taste in my mouth. I almost feel guilty. Is it just me, or does Gabriel have a ridiculous amount of appeal to it?? (and more importantly for the sake of grammar... did I use appeal properly there?)

reply

I agree with you 100%. I enjoyed it much more than I did I Am Legend. And yes, you did use appeal properly :)

reply

...but even here in Australia, our dvd release lacks the eyes at the end...
Yeah and saw it last night on TV and no post credits scene.

reply

I watched in Netflix and at the end is a large black screen too, I was wondering why someone puts that in the movie
