I Was Really Disappointed by this Film

First off, I must admit that perhaps my expectations were too high for this film going into it. However, The Year My Parents Went on Vacation was dreadfully slow and put me to sleep which is very rare for me since I have a good attention span. I assumed the story would keep me interested with an intriguing plot with a lot of heart and twists and turns. Well it did have some heart to it, but the story was simple and I cannot think of any scenes that felt special. The characters, to me anyway, seemed very generic and I could not connect with them. The film was bland and I kept hoping to see how the parents were faring. I think the story would have been a lot more interesting if it followed the parents and their leftist political views rather than a neglected kid growing up with little social interaction. Sorry for being a bummer about this film.

3/10

I see what you are saying and I understand some of your points but to throw my opinion in there, I purposely think that the Parents were left out for a reason. I think that the point of the movie was not to show the politics of it all but to show how they effect the people who are not involved in it. Examples are Mauro and Schlomo. Neither one wanted anything to do with the politics but Mauro was left abandoned and Schlomo was arrested for conspiracy. I thought the film was very original and I give the film was at least a 6 or 7.

It might have seemed slow because the focus was on Mauro, for whom the time covered by the flim was slow because he was waiting for his parents to return. Haven't you ever had to wait for something important? You pretty much missed the whole point.
