Who Was That Outside Their Window At The End?

I loved this movie, but the ending left me feeling a bit puzzled. I mean, who was that standing outside their window at the end, making those threatening clicking noises again with that blade weapon? We saw the character who had been using this weapon - the mute guy with the scarred face - burned alive, and the rest of his family were killed two by the heroes. Therefore, how come one of them seemed to have followed the couple back home, a year later, when they now had their new baby?

Was there another member of the family that we didn't see throughout the movie?

Good question. I think the answer is that the Director simply doesn't care. He probably hasn't even thought about it. But he knows that this is how most other horror films end, so he's decided to go for this SHOCK! ending without worrying about insulting the audience's intelligence.

PS Can you spot a spoiler in your title? Not that it matters.

I didn't care for the "shock" ending either, but to say the director doesn't know is a weird comment.

It's obviously Deacon at the end. Yes, we saw him burn, but we didn't see him "die". And like Jason, and Mike Myers... these horror movie killers seem to survive the impossible (drownings, gunshots, burnings).

Deacon had access to the couple's stuff. He had a crush on the blonde girl. I think a scene where he had found or was looking at her driver's license pic would have helped establsih this better, but... it was established that Ida and Deacon had stolen their stuff from the campground. They did do a whole bit where they discuss Mike's wallet & driver license.

So while the question remains, how did Deacon survive the burning and then how did he get to VA... The same can be said for Jason Voorhees circa Friday the 13th part 2. In that case, there was no way Jason could have found the woman. It had been several years later and Jason was a mute, deformed merman (nude for that matter) when we left him at end of Friday the 13th. Even if he had her address when she was at the Lake... in the years following she could have moved, etc.

yeah, I didnt much care for the ending. Seemed like a shock ending just to have a shock ending, like a bunch of other horror films. It would have been better if it just ended with the baby."I`m not a complete idiot. I`m still missing some parts..."

I concur ^. I mean, why do they have to show that scythe thing so close to the baby? That's just wrong. What, is he going to filet the baby? But yeah, I just assumed it was Deacon because he was only on fire for a little bit and he was in the 2nd stage of STOP-DROP-ROLL.
