Would any man be this stupid?

I mean common boys. He desereved everything he had comming. Would the average male be as stupid as this guy? All brawn and no brains?

I mean really, if deep woodland freaks are telling you to do something as simple as mmm. SEX with YOUR girlfriend, in HOPES that she gets pregnant.

Wouldn't you just buy some time and do it. In concentration camps 100's would do much worse just to buy the time to evalute the enemy and their suroundings.

What an idiot that the Girl tells them she's already pregnant with her demon seed. The two had less of an IQ then their captors. Even scarface was smarter!

Dumb and Dumber.

And to turn your back on the guy you just rifle butted to the ground TWICE!
That boggles the mind. Didn't tie him up, didn't bring him with him. WTF?

And after the first instance with the 3 bros in the forest, they should have left then and there. Tried another lake, another trail, another state.

The male ego sometimes astounds me.. and I guess his testosterone induced through torture brought that out loud and clear. When was he going to figure out that once your beaten, lie down like the dog and wait for a clearing.

The filmography and the concept have been done enough to challenge a director to break some boundries. Lots of things could have happened that would have held the audience in as much captivity, but alas cliche, cliche and there you have it. What's for dinner?

Well in all my honesty i'd like you to go throw yourself under a moving van.

the cockiness and bluntness of women astounds me too often. the movie was dumb but so are you. oh well life isnt fair bud.

I'm not entirely sure why the hate from the next posters (rape?..what?)
- but I totally agree with the original poster. Watched it tonight and thought all the same things, and more. Obviously I can see why he wouldn't want or be able to have sex, but at least try and fake something up - and how many times do you need a good whupping before you learn

a) not to swear
b)not to blaspheme
c) not to keep telling the crazy, murderous armed nutjobs that you think they are whacko and you have no intention of helping them out.

Just play along, and buy yourself time! Dumb and dumber - completely agree.

I felt the fact he didn't have sex with her was fine. I mean it is either gunna go two ways - do it or not and he choose not to or he just couldn't. I am fine with that aspect.

However,I do feel that any normal person might have shut the F#%k up with the swear words etc after a while. Maybe this guy some how liked the torture he was getting, i don't know, but in most cases i would imagine if you were being hit/ tortured everytime your swore you might give up on it.

Why did they get rid of the bullets after having a serious run in with some red necks? No way in hell after something like that am i getting rid of my gun and bullets. Further i wouldn't stick around and i am surprised that SHE didn't want to end their little journey after this even if he was happy to go on. Didn't make sense and let me down from here on.

Why blurt out that you are already preg out of wedlock when you know the conclusion to this is prob gunna be a horrid death? I get that she was angry and prob said it in spite but stupid movie really.

The last few seconds of this film were stupid. They just had to have Deacon the deformed brother jump up in the end. Ruined everything for me this final shot.

"YOU FOOL!" (after he got rid of the bullets, after being confronted by three countryfolk with rifles).

I don't mind horror, but I mind when the victims have to lose a few IQ points so that they CAN be put into peril.

A lot of ad hominem attacks on this thread, but what it comes down to is this is a low budget, semi-mediocre movie. Probably, most people are really wanting an hour and a half of their lives back, like me.

Recent movies that I have seen that are much better: "Eden Lake," "The Cabin," and even "Vacancy 2."

Wow didn't think this thread would invite such emotion.
I know it's just a movie! that was my point, JUST a movie where (as I said)
The director had many more options but took the average way out.
Maybe some of you felt I was threatening the male ego, which is a bit obvious from some of the replies. But I was just asking, what would you have done?
I think men are much more intellegent then the guy in this movie.
I think most guys would have done alot smarter things, and not ruined or ended the movie. It would have added to it, like AH, I should of thought of that.
I should have made my question less emotional, I wrote it just after viewing the movie and I was just upset I wasted my time on what could have been a better movie. Though I guess it did it's job in getting any reaction out of me.
I need a refresher course on B movies in general.
Eden Lake was very good, very real, way better than "While she was Out"
I think it's a B movie, but it was a good movie. Off topic, sorry again.
Have a day!

Wow, these threads get heated!

Being a chick, I daresay that if I were in the situation of having three dudes with guns accost me and my boyfriend in the woods and managed to get out of the situation unscathed, I would've left. Vacation would've resumed in a nice hotel far, far away.

If I had stayed, no way in hell the bullets would've come out of our gun, our major source of protection.

As far as sex in the torture chamber, I'm not sure how any guy could get it up under the circumstances, having been whipped, beaten, flailed, branded and now faced with his girlfriend ("wife") all set up in medieval-esque stirrups and some toes missing. Not really a cause for the silo rising...

Regardless, if the folks had left at the beginning of the flick, there'd be no flick. So amen to the dude who said, so eloquently, "HOW THE FU*C COULD IT EVER BE A FUC*ING HORROR MOVIE?????"

Lots of different people would act a lot of different ways in said circumstances, but it's a creepy movie that needed certain things to happen in order to BE a movie.

(I still would've kept the bullets, at least...)

Right, but I have to have SOME intelligence in the movie...and what's with leaving out the "K"?

though i agree with most of your points i do also kinda agree with the guy that said its only a movie, if they had turned around and found a new park to hike then there wouldnt have been a movie at all... the dude could have been a little more mature about posting his thoughts and for that hes an idiot...

heaps of stuff could have been done different but i still found it relatively entertaining.. though the end where deacon shows up was kinda not needed. i hate how all horror movies end like that... "oh baddies dead we can relax now" but then last second BAM theres the baddie again. they do it for the sequel thats just going to suck. milking it for the 5 dollars they'll make off of it in box office, rentals and purchases combined lol

They could have just done that scene with the hunters intruding on them at a less intense pitch and the movie would have the same essential plot, except you wouldn't feel like the couple are such idiots for continuing their hike. It bothered me that the guys surrounded them with guns, basically threatened to rape her or steal all their stuff, and they barely discuss it after the hunters leave. Then she insists on getting rid of their only weapon when she was the type with foresight enough to bring her cell phone. She could have said, let me carry the bullets, you keep the gun, then they could have made a scene later where they try to get the gun and bullets in the same place though they've been separated for torture.

It makes sense that she didn't want him to pull the gun on the guys because they were outnumbered at that moment, but as a woman, if nasty hillbillies with guns were threatening me in the isolated woods, I'd want to have some kind of protection on my way out of there. Maybe it's the fault of the hunter guys overacting their creepy factor, or she's supposed to think that her dumb boyfriend is protection enough alone.

reply

The people in this movie did a lot of stupid things. After the trouble they had with the guys at the beginning they sure seemed very calm. They not only stayed but got rid of their only means of protection. At the very least they could have back tracked and taken one of the paths patrolled by the sherrifs instead.
She even went swimming naked not knowing who might be watching.

Once they were captured, why not play along. Have sex or at least try to you can buy yourself some time. At the very least he could have asked them to stop drugging her. They knew people would come looking for them long before she started to show. Plus, the less torture they went through the stronger they'd be and better able to take advantage of any chance to escape.

I know it's just a movie but it should still have some internal logic. It was still entertaining enough for what it is but I just think it could have been done better.

reply

Throwing the bullets away was definitely the dumbest idea in a pretty dumb movie, lol. And as others said, wouldn't knowing you pissed off several locals with weapons be enough motivation to use a different trail? What would have made a more interesting plot would have been to have the couple use one of the "safe" trails, only to find something horrible there, and THEN have the locals rescue them from the danger, thereby having the couple realize how condescending they had been and mending their ways. Would've been better than the plot they used, at least lol.

The main problem is, there are soooo many movies about hillbilly slashers these days. I mean, off the top of my head: Cabin Fever, Timber Falls, Backwoods, The Hills Have Eyes 1 and 2, TCM 1 and 2, Wrong Turn 1 and 2, 2001 Maniacs and the (announced) sequels...Even the "new" Jason Voorhiees came across as a hillbilly.

Enough with the redneck horror already!

I've read the posts upon this thread, especially Ticketbooth's (thanks for the demeaning put-down on the male population and then in the next moment try to reitterate and claim how men aren't that bad), been hurt a lot have we? I felt that way too after my ex GIRLfriend screwed me over but I moved on, I suggest you do the same.....

But enough about who is better, men or women, they both are equal, they both have their bad seeds in their respective populations and moving onto the the actual topic at hand....

I'd like to mention that the reason Mike would not do as Ida and Clyde wanted was because in no uncertain terms, they would NEVER hand over a child of theirs to a bunch of psychotics, I actually applaud them on that and believe me, that isn't by no means "male ego", it is human nature. Would you want a normal born child that you gave birth too and have it raised by a looney couple? I sure as heck wouldn't. Also Mike raised a valid point, when he had done the deed so to speak and Sheryl becomes inpregnated, Mike would be killed. Then as soon as Sheryl gives birth she too would be killed, it is obvious, do you think they'd just say "run, run free, you can leave now" and risk being reported, especially when they know Clyde works for the park rangers.

As for "faking" it, you all need to pay attention because Ida checked Sheryl, she would know if they did or didn't do it, that is why Mike told Ida "I wouldn't bother checking, nothing happened".

Astounds me how people watch a movie and think so far off the mark it is almost scary. I also like how people say "If it was me I would do this or that", the fact is, if it was any of you, I find it hard to believe that you'd just crumble and say "here, here, I'll give you my baby, do what you will with it".

The last comment I want to say is I do agree it was a bit stupid to toss away the bullets from the gun but everybody in their life does stupid things, again, it is human, but a gun against 3 rifles which is what the rednecks had won't be much of a battle anyway. As for them continuing their hike, it was one bad experience, as I said in another post, Sheryl was not nearly raped by the rednecks, they were just ogling and perving, Deacon almost raped her later in the movie. So if everybody in life came home from a vacation due to some bad experience then I think holiday resorts would fast become bankrupt.

Nobody that you'd actually want to watch and root for in a movie would be that stupid. Which, I believe, was the OP's point. Why watch a film about protagonists who are too stupid to live when there are so many other films better worth your limited time? Why make a film about protagonists who are too stupid to live when, with a few tweaks here or there, you could make something equally suspenseful about protagonists who are intelligent enough that they would *not* be polluting the gene pool by reproducing?

As for their continuing on after her nearly being raped--are you for real? Sexual assault (whether it's the full monty or "just" groping and "ogling and perving" at gunpoint) isn't like stubbing your toe. Neither is being held at gunpoint. Both are excellent reasons for simply turning around and going back home while the going is good.

Sigh... a horror movie that is straight out of playboy...

YES, rape is rape which is rape... fancy it up anyway you'd like, but if it is nonconsentual it is rape. (Seriously now? You're claiming that if someone holds a gun to your head it's not rape? What next, you hire your best friend to put a gun to your head? Claim to the cops you didn't have a choice?)

Now obviously Playboy decided to scrap the movie and the producers weren't smart enough to realize the whole concept of the movie, without the X rating, sucked...

And would any man? Sure, I RESPECT my girlfriend unlike you prepubecent perverts... and I certainly wouldn't rape her for the sick pleasure of some perverse tormenters. Thats just wrong, making love is suppose to be about passion, not... this.
