Brits can't play tough guys. This is pitiful.

To americans, all british men are tweed-wearing fairies who drink tea and carry umbrellas. Having them play "rogue cops" doesn't work at all. Casting an obese old man like Ray Winstone as the leader makes it worse.

To the British, all* American men are fat, childish, shouty, ignorant jocks, with sexual inferiority complexes that they try to deny and counter by carring firearms... but who's counting, eh!

Having them play "rogue cops" doesn't work at all.

It does, but you have to pick the right actor and give them a decent movie to begin with.
This was nothing like a proper British rogue cop. This was more a pale imitation of a cop who occasionally has to get rough to get the job done, kinda like a (very) poor man's Gene Hunt.

Ray Winstone was probably only picked because of his history of playing tough, brutal guys. I suspect the draft script looked far better when they signed on to the production.
This was NOT a good film!!

*I say all, but there are many exceptions... and no-one here knows what the &@#$ that 'Pee-Wee Herman' bloke of yours is all about. I understood his role in The Blues Brothers, but the rest of it? WTF, America??!!

Idris Elba, Damian Lewis, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Sir Ben Kingsley, Ralph Fiennes.
Just a few British men who could (and have) acted in some very convincing tough-guy roles. And they all look pretty good with an umbrella too.

Sure, this isn't a great movie. But Brits not being able to play tough isn't why.

op just clarified how americans truly do live sheltered lives.

the average American education consists of lectures on George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, they graduate school and then flip burgers and think brits lives in castles and Spanish ride bulls. now that's pitiful.

"you're* " - you

Daniel Craig
Jason Statham
Timothy Dalton
Sean Connery
Scott Adkins

The list goes on, who have you got? Schwarzeneggers from Germany, all that comes to mind is Seth Rogan

One person's idea of an aggressive hard charging cop is another person's idea of a self-centered, selfish, egotistical a*****e who treats not only criminal and citizens, but their fellow officers like pounded dog****. Don't care what country they come from.

So can we all stop with the nationalistic **** waving? Please?

Just a heads up, Seth is a Canuck.

Thanks but it doesn't change the feeling behind my post.

From a neutral point of view, and though I believe Americans DO the best movies, I think the image of the Britain people are a lot tougher than American, specially after the LGBT campaigns that showed how many "not enough men" you have.

I am not judging nor putting up a preference, but that is what looks like from a third angle.
