Ok, let's just take orders from this person who's been gone for 2 years

I have to say that this was a huge breach of plausibility for me. The fact that here is this person who surrendered all official capacity two years ago but also illegally hacked into the head of section 9's brain and suddenly everyone is taking orders from her and following her lead.

Yeah, it's obvious that Batou is a sucker for her and he allows her to steal his car cause he just doesn't have a clue about his own inability to develop relationships.

But the script fails when we're supposed to believe that just by showing up suddenly everyone in one of the highest government organizations in Japan, Section 9, completely defers to her without question.

For instance, something I would have really liked to have seen would be Togusa surprise us, despite being the slow bloomer as far as information warfare and cybernetics are concerned, and show that he has a few tricks up his sleeve that proves that he deserves his place as head of a major information warfare agency.

Overall, this movie is a net positive but sometimes the fetishization of the major is a bit much.

I didn't find it too much of a stretch, at least on the professional level. The strength of Section 9 lies in their chartered ability to operate outside of official channels, and if they're going to accept intel from anyone it would be the Major. I would agree that their personal reactions are largely glossed-over though. You'd think Aramaki, in particular, would have a bone to pick with her.
