Who thought this movie was good?

I give it 8 out of 10. It was just like the series more so than the other two.

I loved it.

The first two films had a different director. The 2nd movie was more a continuation of the characters as the world itself has changed to a somewhat over-the-top sci-fi environment.

Then the series came and picked up the characters and world from the first movie, but without continuing the storyline (in SAC the major has not merged with the ai). Then came SSS that follows the series perfectly.

The two first movies should not be viewed as a direct continuation, as they simply are not. :) Rather think of them as separate masterpieces with the same characters and similar themes... I love them all!

You know what's strange? I think i liked this even more than the two original movies as a movie. The series is great, but man, this movie was awesome. A lot more tight, pace wise, and all the intrigue and action from GitS, but without an overabundance of the Philosophy/Psychology/Political babble.

I obtained the first episode of SAC but didn't bother to sit through it. I loved both films though, so it'll be interesting to see if I like this one.

I've still to see SSS, but i've seen the first 2 movies and the first 20 episodes of SAC. The 2nd film, Innocence, was the original follow up to SAC, but SSS takes place between SAC and Innocence, and it explains why Kusanagi isn't at Section 9 anymore. That's all i know about this one.

How is Innocence a follow up to SAC?

I haven't invested much time into SAC, but I'm planning to eventually.

I do, however, have the original film, and the follow up, Innocence on DVD, and love both immensely. The original Ghost In The Shell is one of my favorite films of all time.

Seriously though, how is Innocence possibly a continuation of SAC? First off, lets make it clear in case it isn't for some odd reason, that the theatrical films and the television show are separate story arcs; alternate realities, if you will. Second, the Major is GONE until the end of Innocence where she reappears in a temporary body (one of the dolls). This follows the plot set in the first film, where she merges with the Puppet Master.... god damnit my frog is dead. *beep* this thread... my frog is dead. *beep*

Actually, the clarify, it states on the extras on the dvd's of the 2 seasons of the TV show that the writer/director, Kenji Kamiyama, intended the 1st season to serve as a prequel to the first movie. That's why the Tachikomans are killed off, and the major is kind of aloof at the end. When the show was a success, they decided to make the 2nd season, and again have it serve as a prequel to the movie. That's why the tachikomans are brought back, and killed off yet again, and also why the Major ends up the series almost exactly as she is in the beginning of the first film, questioning herself and her existence, etc.
When the 2nd season was warmly welcomed and celebrated by the fans, the writing team decided it was better to re-make the important events of the original movie into the SAC/tv show setting, and thus totally seperate the show from the movies, allowing for future movies/seasons to be produced. The same main points still happen - the major leaving section 9 and doing her own investigations, her joining with a formidable artificial intelligence manipulating events through the net, people being controlled from their cyberbrains, etc.
So, what started out as a prequel to the movie, ended up spawning it's own story that will be allowed to continue, should they decide to go that route. So, if you really wanted to, you could watch the first season, then the original movie. Or even both seasons and then the original movie, if you really wanted to.
The second movie - Innocence - doesn't really fit in with the series, and was just Mamoru Oshii's continuation of the story, and is in fact, an expanded story from the comics. In fact, a vast majority of the story in the movies and TV series is taken directly from, or heavily influenced by, the comic. Hope this helps at all. And I've done a lot of research on this topic over the past few years.

I really liked it! I have followed GITS, both movies and all of the series episodes, and was really excited when I found out that SSS had been made. I was a bit worried that it would not be so good or feel like it had been hastily made, but I wasn't disappointed at all! I loved the story and the animation. I especially liked how it had bits here and there that showed the parallels and nods to the original GITS movie, such as when the Major says, "Batou...the net truly is vast and infinite..", which was almost the exact same last line in the original movie..

Excellent stuff! A worthy continuation of a near perfect series. 7/10

Enjoy your worries, you may never have them again!
