Is Okoi actually a vampire?

The book describes her as one but I thought that may have just been a metaphor because of her power however there is something I have been thinking about that may mean she actually was a vampire that ages slower than humans.
The book says she is a teenager however in the episode that shows everyone in the past she looked the same age as she did when she killed Rousai even though in that episode Genosuke and Oboro were shown as kids.
Obviously this means that she was older than them however if Futaro Yamada describes her as a teenager in the main time of the story this would mean that she was intended to appear younger or the same age as them. Although I don't think the flashback was included in the novel.
Two theories I have:
The Anime doesn't need to be 100% acurate to the book(look at Shinobi.) so she didn't need to be a teenager in the main time of the book.
The other theory is that she was actually a vampire and didn't age. The problem t this theory is that sunlight didn't seem to effect her. However any vampire death posibility can be ignored seeing as in "The Lost Boys" it was stated as garlic didn't work.

Well, to be fair, it seems NO other ninja actually aged although Oboro and Gennosuke did... They all look exactly the same. So it's either the animators decided not to pay any dofference to them aging, or they age much much slower than normal people.
