How Disturbing...?

This movie looks amazing and I'd love to see it, but was just wondering how much shark-finning/gutting/killing it depicts? The trailer had quite a bit of footage of sharks being killed (bloodily), and I'm pretty sensitive to that stuff. I don't want to see a movie full of sharks being chopped up. Yeahh, I'm one of those hippie people.
Thanks!

Yeah, you might not want to see it then.

There is also a scene of some local kids playing with
a gutted shark body.

There is quite a lot of it. I found it quite distressing in parts but I thought watching it was more important.

Yeah, many of the scenes are pretty upsetting and bloody, but it's a necessity for the message.

reply

Yes, there is blood and gore and I, too, am a wimp when it comes to that sort of thing. I've never been able to watch horror/slasher movies for that reason.

But it is not a huge proportion of the movie time and it is important in the context of the film and in the importance of the message the film maker is putting across.

There are also many underwater scenes showing the grace and beauty of the ocean's creatures which reinforce the enormity of the disaster we are inflicting on life in the oceans and the utter stupidity of mankind's behaviour.

Do as I did and just look away when it gets too much.

This film is essential. It's real. It matters. See it.

I was also very distressed during some of those scenes, but by watching them the message the movie was trying to get across becomes louder, the injustices seem more horrific, and in the end it makes the film more effective in its purpose, which is to open your eyes to what is happening beyond the comforts of your living room.

to vmf-1 - you are such a hypocrite! you're on another thread bashing the stats then you're on this one complaining about the rituals of the Asian culture. Pick a side dude! Either you're for finning (in which case you're a complete idiot and should be removed from the planet) or you're against it!

I think you're arguing a technicality and perhaps ignoring the point.

The stats will never be completely accurate. They will likely ALWAYS be understated because of under-reporting.

If you've seen this film, I think you already know the point. There's no need to dispute the statistics.

I would like to get the CEO of that shark fin company and chop his hands and feet off, lock him in his house and let dozens of rats in. The complete bastards.
