Sea Turtle scene?

I haven't seen this movie yet, and I'm told I won't like it because I really don't like innocent animals getting hurt or tortured by people. I already know what the basis of the movie is about, so I'm not really gung-ho to watch it anyway, because I find sharks so fascinating and to see them be slaughtered isn't my cup of tea.

But I'm just curious...my friend told me a bunch of people torture a sea turtle that they catch. I don't need details, please, but is this true? She hasn't seen the movie either, but has heard it from others.

i just saw it, and i had no idea that it would affect me this much. i'm like you, i can't stand to see animals getting hurt. i cried about a million times in this film, and the turtle scene is very disturbing. i had to shut my eyes, it was too grotesque. i'm still hurt by it that people are actually doing these terrible things to animals!

Yeah, it was honestly horrible to watch.
I didn't see it get it's throat slit.
But they were trying to smash the hook out of it's mouth, and it wouldn't open it's mouth so they gouged it's eyes.
It was really sad to watch, I had to shut my eyes. So maybe they did slice it's throat and I didnt see it.

The scene with the Sea Turtle is one of the most horrific scenes ive ever seen in a movie. Just awful and it made me angry and resentful towards the Human Race.

reply

It didn't show much, and while I am a gore hound and have seen Cannibal Holocaust (which contained even worse turtle torture), that scene was very horrific. Sure it cut out at the gross stuff, but it was still disturbing, especially when they gouge the eyes out.

Yeah, the Cannibal Holocaust turtle scene was worse, but this one just was hard to watch.

yeh its a horrible scene and completely unexpected, harsh.

It was one of the worst things I have ever seen.
You could almost hear it screaming in pain.

But I still think you should watch the film.
It'll open your eyes and hopefully you won't regret watching it
just because you get uncomfortable.

The entire thing moved me to tears.

In all the movies I've seen, that was definitely one of the most painful scenes to watch. The reason you could almost hear it screaming was because it was screaming in pain. And for the person that said that it made him/her resent the human race, you're not the only one. These people are pathetic and don't know what it is to be alive. They somehow feel like since we're human and can do certain things and get away with it, we should do it and do it and do it. I personally don't see the difference between murdering a human being and what I saw in this movie, to me, they are one and the same. We are human only by chance, we did nothing more to be human than other animals did in being what they are. I also think a lot of idiots kill animals out of shear jealousy of their beauty and the lives' they live, they are envious and somehow fulfil a pathetic void in their lives by thinking that they've conquered something in killing an innocent animal. And yes, the movie may bring a normal human being to tears.

There are so many posts on YouTube about how shark finning isn't cruel and that these fishermen have to make a living to feed their families.

I simply link them to that Sea Turtle scene letting them know shark finning supports the killing of many other sea creatures as well. The scene on YouTube is "Sharkwater Part 5 of 9" at 7:10

Out of sight is really out of mind aye?

The scene with the turtle was one of the most horrifying things I have ever witnessed. It made me want to vomit, it made me angry and it made me profoundly sad. Months after seeing the film it still haunts me. Humans have such a tremendous capacity for cruelty and evil.

Who filmed the scene?

We see a shot of the turtle being hauled from the water. The point of view of the camera taking that shot is from a divers camera in the water. It then cuts to a close up shot of the turtle having the hook bashed from its mouth while having its eye pushed in. The shot is not from a shoulder high POV. It is very close indeed, as if the camera man was focusing in on the upcoming eye gouge moment.

I can't imagine where they could have gotten such contrived footage from.
