The word 'sad.'

My History teacher showed us this film today.
When it was over, we had a discussion about it in which he said the following:

"Now, what do you think about this film? Why do you think I showed it to you? And I'll tell you what words I don't want to hear. 'Sad.' 'That was SAD.' And 'bad.' 'That's BAD!' Sad doesn't MEAN anything. Bad doesn't MEAN anything. 'Like' doesn't mean anything. 'LOVE' doesn't mean anything. What IS love? How many of you have been in a relationship before? How many times in that relationship have you used the word 'love?' 'I love you.' Really, now? REALLY? Your sympathy will not do anything for these children. 'Awww, how sad.' ONLY YOUR ACTIONS WILL HELP THEM. So don't tell me it's SAD."

And the thing is, I see what he means. And I love him for being so brutally honest.
