Brilliantly Awful
Having just completed my own write-up in the user comments section for this movie (Brilliantly Awful, dated 10 May 2009) I thought I should come and post in here.
Firstly, because Ross Boyask and Phil Hobden both appear to post in these message boards, and by following up those comments in here, it gives them a right to reply. Secondly, I wanted to say (if it wasn't clear enough from my comments write-up) how much I loved this movie, despite it being (IMVHO) shockingly bad, even for the budget.
I for one will be going out to buy a copy of the DVD.
I know that Ross and Phil probably won't appreciate my reasons for appreciating this truly awful movie, but there you have it. I'm sure that the whole production crew and cast worked very hard (and probably for very little or no money) and these comments in no way negate that fact. There come a point however, when you have to call a spade a spade, an in this instance, doing that is to say, this movie is epic in the scope of it's awfulness.
I've seen the "amazing" reviews that are being posted in sites like this and others (hats off for the effort in self promotion - and I truly mean that in a non sarcastic way) but there is just no way an average person could or would compare this movie to a low budget version of one of the more mainstream gritty Brit-flick movies. To be frank, I'd be surprised if anybody but the most die-hard subscriber to the likes of Combat or Impact magazines really thought this movie succeeded in being what it was intended to be.
Having said that, this movie (IMO) fails in such ans epic way, that it actually wins.
To Phil and Ross, I would say; that if you can make movies this cringingly awful and brilliant by accident, you should consider taking the plunge and going for the full-on deliberately awful movie scene. How could you fail, with such latent comedic skills!!!
