Influences

What films and other work have influenced this film?
I see some similarities in Dead Man's Shoes, though I'm the most clued on this genre of films.

reply

Influences are directors like John Frankenheimer, Sam Peckinpah and Walter Hill.

Story/film influences are things like The Punisher, The Crow, Sin City, Get Carter, Point Blank. Dead Man's Shoes is a terrific film too.

Basically look at those real old school hardcore British movies of the 70's like Get Carter. Thats very much a vibe we were looking for here.... we want to reinvoke that spirit of bad arse British filmmaking.

The biggest infulence on me growing up was Sam Raimi and George A Romero which is why I'm such a fan of very violent gore seqeunecs. I watched Evil Dead aged 8 (the uNcut version) and I guess that tainted me!

Also massive fans of Tony Scott, Scorsese, John Woo, Tim Burton...

Just got the film and looking forward to it.
It's so nice to see someone who saw The Evil Dead at such an early age like myself. It's now one of the most watched films EVER for me. Must've easily seen it over 100 times.
I have to say as well, it's fantastic to see someone rating Tony Scott so highly. He is such a great film maker and much more stylish and impressive than Ridley. Man On Fire is astonishingly good. One of the best films of the last ten years.

Man I love Tony Scott... he's so undrerated.

Okay look lets be honest he's no Scorsese but his films are (with a few exceptions) massively fun and always well made.

Man On fire, True Romance, Top Gun, Crimson Tide... all just awesome films.

As for Evil Dead... hell yeah LOVE IT!

Hi there, thanks for your comments, hope you enjoy the film. I think the thing that Phil may have forgotten to ask is how you got it? Is it an official screener?

Look forward to any thoughts and feedback.

I was naughty enough to download it but have since bought it because i enjoyed it. Wasn't a classic in my opinion but certainly enjoyable enough to shell out some money for!

In the Tony Scott back catalogue you forgot to mention another couple of amazing films...Deja Vu and Taking of Pelham remake!

reply

Well thanks for spending the change. I'm sure the Sales agents will enjoy it (they seem to have taken most of teh money from the film...)
