This was rough.

First off,I watched only the 1st 28 minutes of this. So I can't give it a real review. The reason I shut it off was because it's so horribly depressing & revolting to be reminded of what happened at those prisons. (Torture, humiliation,DEATH,etc.) It also reminded me how pathetic & ugly this war has been (and still is.) Proceed with caution if you watch this. I can handle a lot of ugliness, but this was too much.

A valid reaction. The film is quite unsparing. On the other hand, I feel the ugliness is essential, since the subject matter is so vile. There are a lot of "patriotic" Americans who feel that the ends justify the means that could really stand to see this film despite (or because of) the disturbing content. Unfortunately, the people who could most stand to watch this movie with an open mind are the least likely to be willing to watch it at all. It is not an anti-American film at all but rather extremely pro-American in that it makes plain that the events the movie depicts fly in the face of what makes the USA such a standard-bearer for decency throughout the world. Most people who watch this film will no doubt be horrified and repulsed such as you were. That certainly doesn't mean it is a bad or vile film, just that it is about a bad and vile subject matter.

Watching this film was a cake walk compared to witnessing two planes flying into the world trade center, an image that will live in all of our minds forever. The film presented one side only, the issue is much more complex than once innocent taxi driver....

reply

Indeed, and 'terrorists' are much more complex than they're being the bad guys and us (US?) the good guys.

reply

So, by that logic, that "innocent taxi driver" died to avenge the 9/11 attacks?

reply

but i think the film does prove that what went on in these prisons and the death of that cab driver did nothing to hurt the people that caused 9/11 or to prevent future attacks from ever happening again... that's the point of the film in my opinion.

You and I and dominoes, time goes by...

I remember watching this documentary and feeling sad, disgusted and enraged at the same time. I did finish watching it but it WAS difficult.

I agree with a another poster that the "ugliness must be told" because it should be known what happened.

I came.. I saw.. And I got lost.
