Obama: Close Guantanamo Bay

So far this is Obama's promise... does anyone know how he attempts to do this. He obviously can't release all 200+ detainees back to the Middle East. The far majority have never gone trial. What a mess to clean up.

Obama says he's going to do it over the next year OR SO. The Bush administration also admitted during the investigations that the CIA meaning "we the US" have "secret" prisons in Europe and in China. Because of this, I would suspect other places as well, including within the U.S. but they admit they have secret prisons in Europe and China. I would refer to these "secret prisons" as concentration camps and I expect they are run just as criminally as the concentration camps of WW2, though on a much smaller scale. I really hate to think of we, as the "good guys" having secret prisons at all. I mean, here are real life prisons in which real people are kept, who haven't had their day in court. They can be tortured or murdered without any recourse, nobody but the CIA and their handlers in Washington (and how can we be sure they even answer to ANYONE?) even know Who are being kept in these prisons. At least Guantanamo isn't a SECRET prison. We know from the testimony of witnesses and from the paper trail that the US has conducted torture there for 8 or so years now and that many people including Americans like me (and I am an Army veteran) believe that torture is completely wrong, no mater who is doing it, for whatever reason. If there is an exception to this, surely it exists only and mostly for people WHO HAVE tortured other people. So I would say OBAMA needs to close the SECRET prisons even more than he needs to close Gitmo, though I thank God that he says he is going to close Gitmo. Unfortunately, they plan on incarcerating those poor, tortured souls back here in the U.S. instead of releasing them, so it just means they will be getting moved to American prisons where they might not be tortured to the extent that they were being tortured in Cuba because, being on American soil, their treatment is suposedly, at that point, governed by American Law which forbids cruel and unusual treatment i.e. torture.

And you're a typical whiny piece of *beep* with unrealistic expectations of a president. But what else is new?

reply

The only task is to bring back the 3,000 Americans who were slaughtered on 9/11. If this task cannot be completed, then 1,000,000 Islamic extremist need to die for every 9/11 victim. We are behind on this task. Come on Europe. Where is your Charles Matel? Tired of being overrun by Islamic invaders?

Even Ward Churchill doesn't believe this bull.

Gitmo is not the problem...it's the left wingnuts who think everyone can be
talked to and talked out of evil crazy thoughts.BHO will close Gitmo, but not
until he spends millions in payoffs to small islands to take a few of the
terrorists.(I would take them out back, and shoot them!)

reply

I would like to do the same thing to you and most of the right-wing Keyboard Kommando Tea Party whackjobs that talks a load of *beep* but can't get off of their asses and join the U.S. Army because they're full of *beep* and wouldn't last a day in basic training.

I served four years in the U.S. Army and none of my friends I kept contact with after over twenty years support the Occupy Wall Street losers.

reply

Too bad, because one Marine who returned from Iraq/Afghanistan actually was with the Occupy Wall Street people, and even had a go at some cops, berating them for treating the protesters badly. Also, there's Occupy Cleavland, Occupy Los Angeles, Occupy Oakland, Occupy Toronto, and a ton of other sympathy actions world wide-some of them even having military personnel present. I think that you should rethink what your friends say, because the dam has burst, and the Egyptian Spring may be responsible..

reply

[Egyptian Spring may be responsible..]

Oh, I see. The Occupy people will start murdering Coptic Christians.

reply

Not quite, since the Mubarak regime was responsible for that atrocity.
