Most Turks know the Armenain Genocide occured

The problem is that if you mention it in Turkey you are subject to arrest. Even famous people are: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07281/823676-42.stm

Orhan Pamuik, our most famous Pro-Turkish writer, Nobel prize winner, was ARRESTED for using the term Armenian Massacres. If he had written "Genocide" he would have been killed.

In ten or 20 years we will be able in Trukey to a have a full and unrestricted study of this and then you will see us admit the genocide.

The whole world had hundreds of studies with the outcome that there clearly was a genocide, and you say that Turkey knows this. Why do you think they will do another study if they know the outcome that they have to recognize the genocide?

Also, I'm wondering, in your history books, do they actually say that Armenians slaughtered some innocent Turks, and that they moved to safer grounds and that a couple of thousands died there by accident? Or is that part of the history completely blank?

Artnaz, many of our history books actually noted the Armenian genocide in the 1930s and 1940's. Some perversely did so with pride.

Of late this stuff has all been expunged, the official denial only started in the late 1980's. It was begun by the military as they started to lose their claim to power and tried drum up support with ultra nationalist claims toward threats from free speech.

the laws about "insulting" turkey are also fairly new. They were passed at first used agaisnt the Kurds. In 1983 there was a afmous trial of a Kurdish activist who despite never being accused of anything violent was charged with "insulting Turkey" by simply saying he was a "Kurd." He got 12 years in prision for saying so.
