'More Than Human' by Theodore Sturgeon

I've only seen bits and pieces of this show, but I'm wondering if it was partially inspired by this old science fiction novel. It's been a long time since I read it, but "Primi" and the clam remind me of Baby from the book (a profoundly retarded baby with a mind like a computer), and the "Gestalt" from the book also includes a pair of twins. Okay, they aren't Siamese twins, but...

I'm sure this post won't get any responses, but it's been driving me crazy (somehow I had the idea that the book was called "Gestalt", and it took me forever to find what it really was), so I'm putting it up here to jog my memory the next time I forget.
