Honestly, how many people suicided at the beginning?

When the stats from Valve came out with the number of hours played and kills and stuff about Episode 2, there was also a topographical map representing where people died the most, and I was surprised to find out that at the beginning when you're standing on the small cliff looking down at City 17, many people decided to jump down, I guess just to see what will happen. LOL I thought that was funny.

People do it for the lolz or from falling down by accident.

Where are those stats? They sound interesting.

They're on the www.steampowered.com website somewhere, but I forgot b/c it popped up with the Latest News bulletin when I opened steam one day a couple weeks ago.

I just looked at the stats again, and it just amazes me people still have DX8

some times dx9 causes a error on css and i have to force it to use DX8.1 mode perhaps they're experience similar issues?

I think you misunderstand. I'm sure most (or all) people have DX9, it's just that, due to system requirements, they are forced to use DX8.1 (like me.) This is what they mean when they say the game is scalable. In fact, I think it goes all the way down to DX6, at least in HL2.

Oh. What kind of system requirements causes the dx9 to not work?

I think you may still not understand me. In my computer, I have a GeForce Fx 5200, a very crappy card. If I want to play Doom 3, for example, I have to turn shaders off or shadows down to play at a reasonable framerate. But with Half-Life 2, I just turn the DX level down. (Actually, Steam automatically detects the optimum level for your machine.) It's difficult to explain, but basically, it lowers the quality of the visuals at an almost imperceptible level (at least to me,) and boosts the framerate quite a bit. So I get to play at 60fps and keep all of the bump mapping, it's just not as... bumpy.

I can set HL2 to the DX9 level and play it using the startup command thing. You don't have to have any special requirements to play at the DX9 level. In fact, when I installed it on my laptop, despite it being the weaker machine, it defaulted on DX9, so I manually lowered it.

Oh cool, thx.

Hahaha, I jumped too, shortly before the big blast wave hit and knocked over the fences.

<--- jumped thinking that was actually where I wanted to go.

I know I did

Yeah, I also jumped! Mostly out of curiosity, but I also figured that it might have been he direction I was actually supposed to go :-D.

I'm curious now, at what point did people suicide most? While waiting for Alex to lead and then realizing she was going to follow you, at the car collapsed across the pathway, or while waiting for Dog to show up and throw a van at you? I died each of those times.

After Dog opened the path to the cliff, Alex walked out and I followed. I waited around for her to finish talking, then waited some more for her to continue on. Then I got restless, quicksaved and took a leap for the hell of it.

When I reached the car, I tried to skid around it at first. I aimed the grav gun at it and it didn't work, so I tried with a little more determination to squeeze past the inside, then the outside, before toppling off the path. Eventually I aimed at the sweet spot to clear the car out of the way.

When we reached the junkyard clearing, I only watched the scene behind me in brief peeks; mostly I was concentrating on surveying the chasm. To be honest, the action was a bit slow, and though Alex was cute, her nerdy attempts at wit were getting on my nerves, and continued to do so all through Ep1. I tried a few suicide jumps before Dog even showed up.
