DVD or USA Release?

Will this film be released on DVD or in theaters in the USA? I would really like to see it! Deutschland rules!

reply

its really really unlikely there'll be a theatre release anywhere other than Germany, but don't give up hope on the DVD. You will probably be able to get your hands on a subtitled copy at some point. I think rights are been discussed with other countries.
It sucks, doesn't it? why can't we all just live in germany lol

'I think rights are been discussed with other countries.'

Crossing my fingers and toes and everything else. LOL. I come from Singapore and so hoping this will be true eventually.

'It sucks, doesn't it? why can't we all just live in germany lol'

LOL. I agree. I became a Germany fan convert during the World Cup and still a fan since. Till then, I am only an England fan.

Sigh. Before this World Cup came along, my knowledge of Germany was only about cars, sausages, beer, Beethoven (I used to take piano lessons before) and...the Nazi era and post-WWII Germany which I learned in my former history classes (those topics first launched my knowledge about the country). The World Cup taught me a lot about the country which is more than just that! :)

reply

I'm very much the same! Lol. As of the World Cup 06 I've just being in love with them, and Germany too I suppose. Before that, all I knew about were the World Wars, and those fancy cakes that they make with the funny icing hehehe. So I have a new kind of respect for Germany. I come from England and there's still a fair bit of anti-Germany feeling among people I know but never anything on a serious scale. It's the same with France hehe, ever since we fell out over who should get the 2012 Olympics :/
There's something awesome about the German team though. They're just like a family and you don't get that with many other teams. I wouldn't say it existed in the England side.

Oh. Yeah, like what I always hear 'Don't talk about the war!'. My past history classes even talked about the Blitz. But on the football scale, my father still smugged whenever he thinks about the 5-1 scoring against Germany in the 2002 World Cup qualification round which he says it's (probably) the only best performance Eriksson had ever achieved as the England national coach. Ouch. He had never been forgiving to whatever Eriksson did during this World Cup even after Eriksson explained to the press on the actions he did.

I can understand. But before it was announced who should host the 2012 Olympics, I was wondering about all the fuss of the rivalry between England and France given it's here in Singapore where the winner will be announced. I only realised it after the results came out. The London delegation and from what I read on the BBC back then...it's all high spirits and suddenly it's all patriotic. The French side? From what I read on the news here, they were just plain bitter that it went to the English.

Yes, yes! *grin*

That's cause we lost the war.

ugh you have no idea how mad I will be(and the rest of you guys as well) if they don't release the documentary on DVD. I'm in the US and all of our soccer sucks and I can't keep watching the 2 World Cup games I have on tape over and over again. WE WANT DEUTSCHLAND!!!

reply

I know the feeling I taped the German-Portugal game and I can't help but watch it over and over. Anyway the movie: DEutschland Ein SOmmermarchen is still in theaters in Germany to my klowledge, and it will be a fair time before it is out and even near to being released on DVD, due to the overwhelming popularity of it. My family lives in Germany, and according to them the DVD release date is going to be around late spring early summer. SORRY GUYS!! :( But your best hope of getting the movie when it does come on sale is to order it over the internet from a german movie company, as I have in good knowledge the movie won't be sold in America in say a Walmart. Sorry guys that's all the information I have.

I think the DVD is released in Germany in February.

Yeah I think the official release date's 8 Feb 2007.

Hey zahirstt9m, do you know if the DVD will contain English subtitles or have an international version released by the movie company?
Cuz as far as I know, there'll be subtitles only for the following: Deutsch, Polish, French & Dutch. I don't know why they don't have it in English, which is such a bummer. I'd really love to catch it on DVD and understand what's really going on..

p.s. I come from Singapore by the way and I love DFB and their style of play (:

Hi Guys

For those who are desperately awaiting to see it, even without english subtitles:

It will be shown this evening at 20:00 on ARD, the first national broadcaster.

If you can't get it on TV, so try to register BEFORE (!) on http://www.onlinetvrecorder.com/ and select it.

The movie is the top-recording of the day, so it's easy to find.

After the recording you can download it as a WMV-File from whereever you live.

I've just seen it and it brought back a lot of fantastic memories of the greatest summer of them all when Germany was nothing but a huge party.

I've seen the intense sense of community and solidarity among the players, the goals, the enthusiastic fans, the hilarious atmosphere which infected the whole country.

I recommend it to everyone who considers the Germans to be some non-smiling accurate work-robots.

It was a unique experience. A whole nation was backing up its soccer team. National flags were waving from every car, every house. It was, as if Germany had completely changed over night. That's why we call it a summer fairy-tale - "Ein Sommermärchen".

Aww. You are making this non-German almost crying! I come from Singapore, and I used to take History classes in school and part of the textbook syllabus was about some of your country's sensitive moments. Yes (sigh...), the Nazi era and the Berlin Wall incident for example. So I can clearly understand how the fans went through. I don't blame them for what they are doing, for I was like them during the World Cup. Cheering like almost crazy in front of the TV. LOL!

The broadcaster Deutsche Welle (my only way of knowing what's going on Germany, from the cable TV over here) did showed few of those clips on the day it was released in Germany and it just, I don't know. So many feelings going through me.

ETA: zahirstt9, you are welcome.

No English subtitles I believe :(

I bought a copy in a German Mediamarkt and I don't think it's got (English) subtitles either.
