Hefner's relation with the bunny girls?

One thing I don't understand is about the relation between Hefner and the house bunny. What do the bunny girls do in the playboy mansion anyway? It seems that Shelly has lived there for a long time. Are these girls "wives" of Hefner?

They are his employees. When they are not modeling for him, they are entertaining at his parties. I've heard it said that those who reside at the mansion must follow a lot of rules which are enforced by their employer, Hugh Hefner

Hefner's life has been 'Playboy' magazine and everything that's connected to the magazine's lifestyle. He appears unpretentious and very satisfied in his chosen life. He obviously loves the company of women and the feeling is mutual. And what do the bunny girls do? My goodness the Playboy Mansion doesn't run itself. When 'Beverley Hills Cop' was released there was a scene that included the 'Playboy Mansion'. In that scene you see the lovely 'bunny girls' doing receptionist work. And no doubt there is a staff and that staff probably includes 'bunny girls'.

HTe bunnies aren't doing the housekeeping or answering the phones. There's an actual staff who works in the offices and stuff. If you've ever seen the reality show The Girls Next Door, it's about Hef's 3 girlfriends (who are in the movie), I don't think there are that many bunnies who actually live there. I think it's mostly girls from out of town who come in for photo shoots. Instead of putting them in a hotel, they stay at the house. And then a few who are particular friends with the girlfriends. A lot of the girls who show up at the parties probably live in L.A. anyway.

If you want to know what the girls were doing there, read Izabella St James' book 'Bunny Tales' about what life was really like in the mansion... a few things:

- If a girl wanted to redecorate her room, Hefner only allowed her to paint the walls pink and have white carpeting because that looks 'girly'
- The girls that lived in the mansion would get plastic surgery paid for by Hefner foor their birthdays
- The girls all had to go to Hefners bedroom once a week and sit there while he would complain about what he didn't like about them before he would give them their allowance (yeah seriously...)
- The staff at the mansion keeps a log of every time a girl leaves or comes back to the house, Hefner looks over these logs before he hands out the allowance and if a girl misses curfew, which is 9pm (again, seriously...) she doesn't get any money

Then there's a whole lot of messed up stuff as far as Hefners twice-weekly 'private parties' go...

In short: the girls who live there are caged and are completely dependent on that Viagra-popping geriatric perv...

While none of this sounds like my idea of a good time, none of these girls are "caged". They all make their own decision to live there and be "that girl", and while they may bitch about the rules, they are free to walk away at any time.

I could care less if Hef is a huge perv - good for him as long as there are women less than half his age who want to live in his house and abide by his rules.

Don't make it sound like these girls have no choice. No one is drugging them or chaining them to walls. He's giving them an allowance, which is basically money just to stand around looking pretty. I'd imagine that they abide by the rules for this simple reason.

It's still a bit sucky for them though, even if it's their choice.

Well...boo friggin' hoo? Maybe they should just go and utilize their free will and /not/ be Hefner's girlfriends and public figures?

The women aren't being forced. Fair enough.

But after reading the book, I was disappointed in the "quid pro quo" nature of Hef's relationships. And when I say disappointed, I'm not attacking Hef's morality. Maybe I'm naive but I thought/hoped Hef's mystique was equal parts charisma & business acumen. While his business skills are still admirable, he's basically paying women to hang out with him. It's a little like finding out Santa isn't real.
