The Return?

Is this film anything like the russian movie The Return? I mean in the mood setting, photo, cinematography, slow and gray and so forth? :)

reply

In both movies, the stories take place on an island in a rather remote and isolated setting which helps to concentrate on revealing the internal conflicts of the characters at greater depth.
In both movies, at the end the main characters' bodies are transported by boat.

moi prinssi! =)
the movies are both good, and both about the depth of the russian soul, which corresponds well with the overall nordic melancholic way of being. these are 2 of my 3 favorite russian movies!

And the third one is.....? i wouldn't mind seeing it if it is anything like The Return in quality.

Watch "The Banishment" by the same director,
it's not as gray, but absolutely stunning as well .

Titus Androgenicus

The Banishment was quite possibly the best Russian film I've ever seen.

The Banishment is a great work of cinema, but even it doesn't top The Cranes are Flying in my book

Who cares about stairs? The main thing is ice cream.

reply

Not really, although it does feature a lot of "watery vistas", much like Tarkovsky.

I think it has a much stronger storyline than the Return, although they are both fine films.
