Filming Location

Does anyone know where this was filmed? The setting was uncompromisingly bleak!

In Karelia, by the White Sea. Very bleak, as one would expect from a place on roughly the same latitude as Reykjavik.

It was bleak, but in no way depressing. I was actually watching it thinking how beautiful it was.

The place had its own beauty, but certainly I would find it depressing (although I didn't say that) because I can't take the cold. Give me a palm tree over an ice floe any day.

This is actually my idea of beauty. I just returned from a trip to Iceland and the terrain here is similar to the Northern coast near Akureyri. I was captivated by the desolate beauty. But I know I'm weird for thinking this :-)
