Just watched it

ok so its obvious everyone knows it just played in PBS tonight. It was pretty good I have to say, I was expecting it to be uninteresting and forgettable but gees i was wrong. I like the way it was directed, the way they represented his eye sight. I wish there were more war moments but its still good. Some questions though (SPOILERS) What happen to the letter he wrote the night before he died? did he send it? and at the end the Soldier was talking about his 13 year old son, I didnt really understand that, I had also just run back from the bathroom....had to pee, PBS plays no commercials....so what is that scene about? but other than that, the film was pretty damn cool, its a must watch PEOPLE COME ON! you should have watched it tonight, even my younger sisters enjoyed it (13,7).

I taped it and will have to watch the ending again to see what the soldier meant about his 13 year old son. Jack probably did send the letter, as I think his actual letters were used in the movie. It was sooo sad though, I was so upset I had trouble falling asleep. It was so hopeless, everyone knew Jack was going to be killed. Dan's performance was outstanding and I saw very few traces of "Harry Potter." (Which, admittedly, was the reason I watched it.) I didn't understand why he had a fake mustache, couldn't he have grown his own and shaved it after the picture was finished? I especially enjoyed the cast comments after the film.

I did some online research about the Kiplings and learned that the parents never recovered from Jack's death and searched for his body for over 2 years. There is a grave somewhere but it is now felt that Jack is not buried there, that it is another soldier instead.

oh I wish they would have shown the part when they got the letter than, it would have made it even sadder. I know that was the sad part, everyone knew he wouldn't make it, it was horrible the way he died, my two younger sisters had tears in their eyes. I would say Daniel Did a great job playing Jack, I don't think he would have grown one, he was filming December boys at the same time, and also because of Equus I would imagen. I loved the cast comments at the end....but for some reason my cable decided to act funny and it just went black when they were talking about The Kiplings home. Thats interesting I didn't know they searched for his body for so long, I also did some research but I didnt find anything important, I wanted to find out more about the sister.

Daniel filmed December Boys in the end of 2005, before Order of the Phoenix, and My Boy Jack in August of 2007, more than one year and a half later. It was like that: December Boys, Order of the Phoenix, Equus, My Boy Jack, Half-Blood Prince, and promoted the films when he was not filming, or rehearsing. The poor lad haasn't had time to rest since promoting GoF. Now he will have some weeks before beginning rehearsals for the Equus in Broadway.

I'm not sure what happened to the letter, but that was not a soldier at the end. It was King George V talking about his youngest sone who died. It was very common for royalty to dress in uniform during war time.

ummm King George.....I guess his boy wasen't that little boy Jack gave his Bike to then....thats what I was thinking.

I think Jack gave his bike to Peter.

It’s good to dream

Peter was the son of one of the Kipling's employees. King George V was referring to the death, in 1919, of his son Prince John. A movie about the sad and tragic life and death of this young prince was shown on MT a few years ago, called "The Lost Prince." John suffered from epilepsy and was kept isolated from the rest of the royal family. He lived on a royal property called Wood Farm and had a nanny and nurse who cared for him. Also a sad story.
