Historically Accurate?

I'm afraid my history knowledge is limited to stone age to Mediaeval era of Ireland... so I don't know much about WW1. Too recent.

But I'm really curious how accurate this movie is to the real history?

cheers!

Is it really, little-miss-chocolate? Oooo this makes me very, very happy! Can you go into some detail or tell me where I can learn more about it? As I said, my time period of study is mediaeval and iron ages, so something so very recent is absolutely foreign to me. So I can scream and whine about Braveheart inaccuracies but wouldn't know one way or another if a movie this recent is correct or not :)

Cheers

here's a link to some facts. Someone here had mentioned that they should have been wearing metal headwear instead of the cloth ones seen in the movie. It was then pointed out that it was only after the Battle of Loos (the one in which Jack was fighting) that the rules were changed and they were given better headwear.

Google is your friend. You can find out anything about anything simply by doing a Google search.

Or Wikipedia for that matter. The big picture is there. General knowledge of WWI and surrounding events and circumstances can be found quite easily:

Just read about German unification (and Weimar republic, Otto von Bismarck), end of the Russian Empire (February revolution and October revolution, Emperor Nicholas II), British colonial Empire and Edwardian era, Balkan wars (Black hand), end of the Ottoman empire (Kemal Atatürk, Tanzimat reforms), Habsburg family and Austria-Hungary (and the Royal Prince Franz Ferdinand), Italian unification (Italian colonialism, Futurism), Crimean war and most importantly about Franco-Prussian war of 1870. Also of importance is the Congress of Vienna (1814-1815) and Spring of Nations (1848), Marxism, Prussian history in general, Russification of Finland, Russo-Japanese war (1904-1905), Opium Wars, Border War between the U.S. and Mexico and the Progressive era of Theodore Roosevelt in the U.S.

These, in addition to articles related directly to World War I, should give you plenty of information about the early 20th century world.

It soft balled the true gruesomeness of Jack's death, he was last seen on the battlefield aimlessly roaming with half his skull blown off. Its based off of Haig's play not the actual incident so that can be forgiven as can most of the other things know it alls like to list as inaccuracies.
