When did all this take place and is Alistair Angus's son??

I read a bio of Angus Buchan and read that this took place in the late 70's. But in one scene, someone is using a video camera that wasn't around till the 90's. Also, Alistair, is he Angus's son?? That part was confusing.

The part about the camera, those kind of things happen in the movies (they use what they could get maybe- not sure).
Alistair is Angus' nephew. Later in the movie Alistair's father has the dream about him.

The film was set in the mid to late 1970's. Alistair was Angus's nephew (he used to call him "Aunty Angus") and was the son of Angus's brother Fergus. The part of Alistair was played by Ewie Cronje II (a relation of some sort of Frans Cronje (producer) I'm in contact with Frans, so I'll ask him.

As for the video camera, I guess they were unable to get an original super 8 movie camera, or felt it wasn't important for the story. Needless to say, the story is true and the camera is irrelevant.

The book and DVD are widely available through Christian bookstores in Australia & most retail outlets in America.

Just because the original story happened back in the 70's doesn't mean the actual movie is set in the 70's. If the story is timeless, then they could have set it in modern day. Thus the true meaning of "BASED on a true story". Doesn't mean it IS a true story. It's just BASED on a true story and creative license has complete autonomous freedom at this point. It's up to the filmmakers how much of the original story they actually keep. For instance, timelines are also adjusted to keep the story compelling. Otherwise you might not think it was a miracle from God if he accepted christ, prayed for over 4 years, lost his farm, started over and lost a few more crops until he finally got rain. It's a more exciting fairy tale if he accepts Christ and all of a sudden everything starts to go right, which is, in the real world, not the case.

In fact, after you accept Christ, the Devil paints a bigger target on you than ever. The true miracle of faith is it's longsuffering. Remember the fruits of the spirit? You don't just accept Christ and it's a bed of roses. I have millions of real Christians to attest for that. This is ONE guy's story. Yet no one ever sensationalizes the story of the majority of Christians. We love to fixate on the one guy who won the lottery don't we?
